Vintage 1945 Charming Half-Moon Purse #272

Materials:
J & P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 4 balls
#6 Bone Crochet Hook
1/3 yd each Buckram & Felt
1 ½ yds Ribbon or Cord
8” Zipper
Belt Buckle

Use 4 threads throughout.

Gauge: 
4 sc = 1”;  
4 ½ rnds = 1” 

Bag Piece: 
Starting at center, ch 4.  Join.

1st rnd:  10 Sc in ring.

2nd rnd:  2 Sc in each sc around.

3rd & 4th rnds:  sc in each sc around.

5th rnd:  2 Sc in each sc around [40sc].

6th & 7th rnds:  Sc in each sc around.

8th rnd:  * 2 Sc in next sc, sc in next sc.  Repeat from * around [60 sc].

9th, 10th & 11th rnds:  Sc in each sc around.

12th rnd:  Same as 8th rnd [90 sc].

13th to 16th rnds:  Sc in each sc around.

17th rnd:  * 2 Sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc.  Rep from * around [120 sc].

18th to 22nd rnd:  sc in each sc around.

23rd rnd:  * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc.  Rep from * to last 3 sc, sc in next 3 sc [159 sc].

24th to 28th rnds:  Sc in each sc around.

29th rnd:  * Sc in next sc, ch 5, sk 2 sc.  Rep from * around, end with a sl st in 1st sc.

30th rnd:  Sc in joining st, * 5 sc over next ch-5 loop, sc over next sc.  Rep from * around.  Sl st in 1st sc.

31st rnd:  Sl st to center sc of next 5-sc group, sc in center sc, * ch 3, sc in center sc of next 5-sc group.  Rep from * around, end with a sl st in 1st sc.

32nd rnd:  Sc in joining st, * 3 sc over next ch-3 loop, sc over next sc.  Rep from * around, sl st in 1st sc.  Break off.

Handle: 
Starting at center, ch 97.

1st rnd:  3 Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, 3 sc in last ch.  Working across opposite side of starting chain, make sc in each ch across.

2nd rnd:  2 Sc in next 3 sc, sc in each sc to next 3-sc group, 2 sc in next 3 sc, sc in each sc to end of rnd. 

3rd rnd:  sc in each sc to end of rnd.  Sl st in next sc.  Break off.

Tab: 
Ch 11.

1st row:  Sc in 2nd ch from hook & in each ch across.  Ch 1, turn.

2nd row:  Sc in each sc across.  Break off.

With right side facing, fold bag piece in half & mark each side of fold with a pin. 

On edge of bag, mark a point 2” on either side of center fold. 

Now make a pleat by inserting center fold back to marks. 

Pin in place. 

Pin opposite side in same way. 

Starting at fold &, working through both thicknesses, make sc in each sc across pleat, sc from pleat across 6” of side.  Break off. 

Join other side in the same way.

Finishing: 
Sew ribbon around top of bag on wrong side. 

Line bag with buckram & lining material, inserting zipper at top. 

Sew tab in place. 

Sew handle around center of bag, drawing buckle through one end of handle.

Note: 
Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between bag & lining to give shape of bag extra support.

MISS JULIA’S PURSE LINING NOTES:
Make paper patt for each crocheted piece before joinings & lay aside to be used later.

Cut lining according to paper patts & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Insert finished lining in bag. 

Sew in zipper [if desired].

Note:  Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between bag & lining to give shape of bag extra support.
