½ rnds = 1”
USE
4 THREADS THROUGHOUT.
BAG:
SECTION
[MAKE 4]: Starting at center, ch 4. Join.
1ST
RND: 8 Sc in ring.
2ND
RND: [Sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc] 4
times.
3RD
TO 7TH RNDS: [Sc in each sc
to center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc] 4 times; sc in each sc to
end of rnd [13 sc between center sc of each 3-sc group on 7th rnd].
8TH
RND: Sc in each sc to center sc of next
3-sc group, 5 sc in center sc [lower outside corner], place a marker, [sc in
each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc] 3 times; sc in each
sc to end of rnd.
9TH
TO 14TH RNDS: Sc in each sc
to center sc of next 5-sc group, 5 sc in center sc, [sc in each sc to center sc
of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc] 3 times; sc in each sc to end of rnd.
15TH
RND: Sc in each sc around, making 3 sc
in center sc of each 3-sc group, omit the incs at marker. Break off.
Hold
2 pieces wrong sides tog &, work thru both thicknesses, make sc in each sc
across one short side [front].
Join
other 2 sections in same way [back].
Join
back & front tog to form bag.
TOP:
1ST
RND: Sl st in next 8 sc, sc in each sc
across front to last 8 sc of side joining, sk 16 sc, sc in each sc across back
to last 8 sc of opposite side joining.
2ND
TO 11TH RNDS: Sc in each sc around. Sl st in next sc. Break off.
To
form 4 corners, place side seams against lower edge of Top & sl st edges
tog.
HANDLE:
Ch

1ST
ROW: Sc in 2nd ch from hook
& in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2ND
TO 5TH ROWS: Sc in each sc
across. Ch 1, turn.
Hold
long sides tog &, working thru both thicknesses, make sc each sc
across. Break off.
BUTTON
TAB [MAKE 2]:
Starting
at center, ch 22.
1ST
ROW: Sc in 2nd ch from hook
& in next 10 ch, sk next 9 ch, sc in last ch & in next 8 ch; work along
opposite side of starting chain, make sc in next 11 ch. Ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: Sc in each sc across. Break off.
FINISHING:
Line
bag with buckram & lining material as far as top.
Turn
back one half of top to right side & tack in place.
Sew
ends of handle to bag inside top. Sew on
button tabs inside top 2 ½” in from each end.
Sew
buttons opposite button loops.

MISS
JULIA’S PURSE LINING NOTES:
Make
paper patt for each crocheted piece before joinings & lay aside to be used
later.
Cut
lining according to paper patts & sew tog.
Shirr
lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.
Insert
finished lining in bag.
Sew
in zipper [if desired].
Note: Cardboard
or lightweight plastic may be inserted between bag & lining to give shape
of bag extra support.
