 MATERIALS:
HAT:
Hiawatha Super Crepe Corde Art #42, 1 tube
OR
Hiawatha Super Twist Rayon Cord Art #41, 1 tube

Lining Material & Buckram

HAT:
Starting at lower edge, make 23” chain.

1ST ROW:  Sc in 2nd ch from hk & in each ch across until row meas about 22” [number of sts must be multiple of 3 plus 1].  Ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  Sc in 1st sc, * ch 2, [yo, insert hk in same place as sc & draw lp thru to height of ½”] 3 times; yo & draw thru all lps on hk, ch 1 to fasten [puff st made], sk 2 sts, sc in next st.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

3RD ROW:  Sc in sc, * sc in next 2 ch, sc in next sc.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

4TH & 5TH ROWS:  Sc in each st across.  Ch 1, turn. 

Rep 2nd to 5th rows inclusive once, then rep 2nd & 3rd rows once more.  Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Twist crocheted piece into figure 8, join 2 short ends tog, sew securely to center
crossing.

Make large bow of ribbon & sew to back as shown in photo. 

BAG:
SIDE [MAKE 2]:
Starting at center, ch 20.

1ST ROW:  Sc in 2nd ch from hk & in each ch across, 5 sc in next [end] ch, then working along other side of foundation chain, work sc in each st to end [41 sc].  Ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  Sc in each st of prev row, inc 4 sts around curve.  Ch 1, turn.

3RD ROW:  Same as 2nd row [49 sts].

4TH ROW:  Sc in 1st sc, * ch 2, [yo, insert hk in same place as sc & draw lp thru to height of ½”] 3 times; yo & draw thru all lps on hk, ch 1 to fasten [puff st made], sk 2 sts, sc in next st.  Rep from * across.  [16 puff sts ].  Ch 1, turn.

5TH ROW:  Sc in sc, * sc in next 2 ch, sc in next sc.  Rep from * across.  Ch 1, turn.

6TH & 7TH ROWS:  Sc in each st of prev row, inc 6 sts around curve.

Rep 4th to 7th rows inclusive [there will be 4 additional puff sts on each puff st row] until piece is 8” deep at center, ending with sc row

Do not fasten off, but work 1 row of sc along top [straight] edge, holding in slightly to prevent flare.  Ch 1, turn.

Work top as follows:
1ST ROW:  Thru front lps, work sc in each st across.  Ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  Thru both lps, work sc in each st across.  Ch 1, turn.

Rep 2nd row until top meas 1”.  Fasten off.

GUSSET:
Ch 11.

1ST ROW:  Sc in 2nd ch from hk & in each ch across [10 sc].  Ch 1, turn.

2ND & 3RD ROWS:  Sc in each st across.  Ch 1, turn.

4TH ROW:  Work puff st patt [3 puff sts].

Work in patt until gusset is long enough to fit easily around last row of side pieces, ending with 3 sc rows.

Work 1 row of sc along side edges of gusset.  Fasten off.

HANDLE:
Work same as gusset for 18”, ending with 3 sc rows.  Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Using crocheted pieces for patt, cut buckram interlining to exact size.

Cut double lining, allowing ½” extra on all edges for seams.

With gusset toward you, join crocheted pieces tog with scs.

Make lining, with slide fastener [zipper], inserting cardboards [hard plastic] for reinforcement.

Insert lining in bag & tack at all seams.

Make 4 pieces of sc ½” x 1 ½” & use to attach eye at each end of gusset as shown in photo.

Line handle & insert thru top of eyes.  Sew in place.

Crease fold for top of bag.

Sew side edges of top to top of gusset.
