HAT:
Cast on 96 sts for lower edge [head size].
Cast on 96 sts for lower edge [head size].
Divide
sts evenly on 4 needles [24 sts to each needle].
Work
[as for stockings] in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 10 rnds.
1ST
INC RND: * K 6, inc [by knitting 2 sts
in 1 st] in next st, k 16, inc in next st; rep from * around, thus inc in 7th
& last st of each needle [8 incs, 104 sts now in rnd].
K
1 rnd even.
2ND
INC RND: * K 6, inc in next st, k to
within 1 st of end, inc in last st; rep from * around [112 sts in rnd].
Rep
last 2 rnds, thus inc 8 sts in every other rnd, until there are 176 sts.

DEC RND: * K 6, p next 2 sts tog [dec],
p to within 2 sts of end of needle, p last 2 sts tog; rep from * around [8 dec,

Work
