 MATERIALS:
HAT:
Hiawatha Super Crepe Corde Art #42, 2 tubes
OR
Hiawatha Super Twist Rayon Cord Art #41, 2 tubes
OR
Hiawatha Super Corde Art #37 or #38, 2 tubes
Steel Crochet Hook #0
OR
Bone Crochet Hook #3
1 ¼ yds Grosgrain Ribbon ½” wide

BAG:
Hiawatha Super Crepe Corde Art #42, 4 tubes

HAT:
CROWN:
1ST RND:  Ch 2, 9 sc in 2nd ch from hk.  Do not join.

2ND RND:  2 Sc in each st around [18 sts].

3RD RND:  * Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st.  Rep from * around [27 sts].

4TH RND:  Sc in next st, * 2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts.  Rep from * around [36 sts].

Cont sc around, inc only 6 sts on each rnd [careful not to make incs directly over prev rnds incs] until piece meas 6” in diameter.

NEXT RND:  Work even [no incs].

FOLLOWING RND:  Inc 6 sts as before.

Rep last 2 rnds once more, then work even until crown meas 5 ½” from beg.  Sl st in next st.  Turn.

BRIM:
1ST RND:  Thru back lps only, work sc inc in every 3rd st around.  Number of sts must be multiple of 5.

2ND RND:  Thru both lps, work sc in each st around.

Work even until brim meas 1 ¼”, sl st in next st.  Turn.

NEXT RND:  Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * ch 3, 4 tr in same place as sc, sk 4 sts, sc in next st.  Rep from * around.  Join & fasten off.

FINISHING:
Sew on ribbon band, making small bow at side.

Insert feather.
  
BAG:
Starting at bottom, make 16’ chain.

1ST ROW:  Sc in 2nd ch from hk & in each ch across until row meas about 14 ½” [number of sts must be multiple of 5 plus 1].  Ch 1, turn.  Cut off rem chain.

2ND ROW:  Sc in each st across.  Ch 1, turn.

Rep 2nd row until piece meas 3”.  Ch 1, turn.

NEXT ROW:  Thru front lps only, work sc in each st across.  Ch 1, turn.

Ridge formed by back lps will be worked in later.

FOLLOWING ROW:  Sc in 1st st, * ch 3, 4 tr in same place where sc was worked, sk 4 sts, sc in next st.  Rep from * across.

NEXT ROW:  Working thru ridge, work sc in each st across.  Ch 1, turn.

Work sc as before until piece meas 2 ½” from top of patt stripe, ending on wrong side.  Ch 1, turn.

Rep patt stripe, work 2 ½” of sc as before, rep patt stripe once more, then work 2 rows of sc.  Fasten off.

Attach yarn to bottom.

Working along other side of foundation chain, work 2nd side to correspond.

FINISHING:
Sew side seams.

Insert bag lining & sew in place.

Make 2” chain & attach pull to slide fastener [zipper] tab.
   
MISS JULIA’S PURSE LINING NOTES:
[Before joining finished pattern pieces]

Make paper patt from crocheted pieces & lay aside to be used later.

Cut lining according to paper patt & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Insert finished lining in bag. 

Sew in zipper [if desired].

Attach ornament to zipper pull tab [if desired].

Note:  Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between 2 layers of lining & bag to give shape extra support.
