This classic beret and shoulder bag duo will quickly become
sensational wardrobe favorites!
MATERIALS:
BERET: American Thread Company Dawn Knitting Worsted 2 --- 1 ¼ oz skeins
BAG: American Thread Company Dawn Knitting Worsted 5 --- 1 ¼ oz skeins
Bone Crochet Hook #5 or #6
2 Ornamental Clips for Trim
½ yd Buckram
½ yd Lining

GAUGE:
BERET: 5 dc = 1” – 5 rows = 1”
BAG: 5 sts = 1” – 5 rows = 1”

ROW: Inc in every 3rd st.

ROW: Work even.

ROW: Inc in every 4th st.

ROW: ** 1 Dc in each of next 3 sts, *
yo, insert in next st, pull thru & work off 2 lps, rep from *, yo &
pull thru all lps at one time, [thus dec every 5th st], rep from **
all around.

ROW: Work same as last row, dec every 4th
st.
16TH
ROW: Dec every 6th st, then
work 1 sdc in each of next 3 sts, sc in next st.
NEXT
ROW: Work 1 sc in each st.

SHOULDER
BAG:
Bag is worked with single strand of yarn.

55, dc in 4th st from hk, 1 dc in each rem st of ch, ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: 1 Sc in each dc, ch 3, turn.
3RD
ROW: 1 Dc in each sc, ch 1, turn.
Rep
2nd & 3rd rows until section meas 20 ½”, break yarn.
GUSSET:
Ch 12, dc in 4th st from hk, 1 dc in each rem st of ch, ch 1, turn.
Ch 12, dc in 4th st from hk, 1 dc in each rem st of ch, ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: 1 Sc in each dc, ch 3, turn.
3RD
ROW: 1 Dc in each sc, ch 1, turn.
Rep
2nd & 3rd rows 12 times, then work 1 sc in each dc,
break yarn.
Work
another gusset in same manner.
SHOULDER
STRAP:
Ch 6 & work 5 sc on ch, ch 1, turn.
Ch 6 & work 5 sc on ch, ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: 1 Sc in each sc, ch 1, turn.
Rep
2nd row until strap meas 36”, break yarn & work another strap.
LINING:
Cut strip of buckram length & width of bag section.
Cut strip of buckram length & width of bag section.
Cut
lining slightly larger.
Place
over buckram, baste & stitch.
Fold
& crease 8” for front, 1 7/8” for gusset, 8” for back & 2 ½” for front
flap.
Cut
2 pieces of buckram 1 7/8” wide & 8” long for side gussets.
Cut
lining slightly larger.
Sew
lining over gusset, then overcast gussets in position to lining.
Sew
gussets in position to bag.
Place
lining in bag & stitch.
Cut
piece of buckram to fit bet shoulder straps.
Sew
shoulder straps tog & sew in position to back of bag with heavy sewing
thread.
Finish
with clip.
MISS
JULIA’S PURSE LINING NOTES:
Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted
between 2 layers of lining & bag to give shape extra support.
