Free Pattern - 1944 Half Moon Bag with Circle Motifs #1045

Vintage 1944 Half Moon Bag with Circle Motifs #1045

MATERIALS:
Jack Frost Baby Soutache, 3 gr yds
Interchangeable with gimp
#2 Steel or #3 White Crochet Hook
Zipper
Lining Material

BAG:
Ch 6, join with sl st to form ring.  Ch 3.

Work 23 dc in ring.  Join [always join with sl st].

Work 1 row of sl st around.  Join.

Work 1 row of sc, inc 1 st in every other st.  Join.

Work 1 row of sl st, join.

Work 1 row of dc, inc 1 st in every other st.  Join.

Rep alternate rows of sc & dc with row of sl st in bet, inc at even intervals on each sc & dc row [be sure to keep work flat], until circle meas 14” in diameter.

MOTIF:
Ch 5, join to form ring.

Ch 3, work 20 dc in ring [if gimp is used, work 24 trc in ring].  Join.

Work 1 row of sl st around motif.

Make 48 motifs, 28 motifs are to be set around entire circle.

GUSSETS:
Join 2 motifs on row for 4 rows, then join 1 motif at center of lower edge.

Make another gusset to match.

Fold bag in half.

Insert gusset at each end.

ZIPPER TAB:
Sew 2 motifs tog to form 1.

Join soutache to motif.  Ch 8.

Work 1 row of sl st on each side of ch.

Join to zipper. 

MISS JULIA’S PURSE LINING NOTES:
[Before joining finished pattern pieces]

Make paper patt from crocheted pieces & lay aside to be used later.

Cut lining according to paper patt & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Insert finished lining in bag. 

Sew in zipper [if desired].

Attach ornament to zipper pull tab [if desired].

Note:  Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between 2 layers of lining & bag to give shape extra support.
