The
college or business woman will dote on the Balalaika Bandeau hat in contrasting
colors with beaded accents. It’s easy to
put on and always looks smart.
MATERIALS:

Entire
has is made using 2 strands.
BANDEAU:
Ch 11 with B, 1 sc in 2nd & each rem st of ch [10 sts].
Ch 11 with B, 1 sc in 2nd & each rem st of ch [10 sts].
2ND
ROW: Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st.
Rep
2nd row until 12 ½” from beg.
Fasten off.
Join
again in 3rd st from end of last row & ch 12” for tie. Fasten off.
Make
ch 12” at opposite short end to correspond.
SQUARE:
Ch 4 with A, join with sl st into ring, work 8 sc in rind. Mark end of rnds.

2ND
RND: * 1 Sc in next st, 3 sc in next st;
rep from * 3 times [16 sts].
3RD
RND: 1 Sc in each of 2 sts, * 3 sc in
next st, 1 sc in each of 3 sts; rep from * 3 times, end last rep 1 sc instead
of 3 sc [24 sts].
4TH
RND: 1 Sc in each of 3 sts, * 3 sc in
next st, 1 sc in each of 5 sts; rep from * 3 times, & last rep 2 instead of
5 sc, 1 sl st in next st [32 sts].
Fasten off.
Make
8 squares.
Join
Squares as follows:
Place wrong sides of 2 squares tog.
Place wrong sides of 2 squares tog.
Join
A at center st of 1 corner & work sc thru both thicknesses to center st at
opposite corner [about 17 sts].

Do not break yarn, cont around 2 sides of 2 more squares, joining upper half of
squares tog & also joining to prev 2 squares at 1 corner; rep from * twice. Fasten off.
Spread
lower free edges of squares apart & sew edges flat on bandeau as shown in
photo.
Sew
1 bead on front & 1 bead on back at center of each square.
