MATERIALS:
Lorraine Boilproof & Sunfast Strawtex [all rayon], Art #W89, 3 skeins
Round elastic
1” Ribbon for inside band

GAUGE:
11 sc = 2”
11 sc = 2”
BERET:
Ch 4, join with sl st into ring.
Ch 4, join with sl st into ring.
Work 8 sc in ring.
Do not join, work round & round.
Work 2 sc in each st until there are 32 sts in rnd; then in
in every 7th st until 64 sts in rnd.
Inc every 10th st until 100 sts in rnd.
Inc every 16th st until 130 sts in rnd.
Inc every 24th st until 136 sts in rnd.
Work 3 rnds even.
Cont sc, sk every 16th st until 90 sts in rnd.
Work 4 rnds even.
Fasten off. Steam lightly.
SNOOD:
Ch 41, work 1 sc in 9th st from hk, * ch 5, sk 3 sts on ch, 1 sc in next st; rep from * to end.
Ch 41, work 1 sc in 9th st from hk, * ch 5, sk 3 sts on ch, 1 sc in next st; rep from * to end.
2ND ROW:
Ch 7, turn, 1 sc in sp under 1st ch, * ch 7, 1 sc in next sp;
rep from * to end [9 sps].
Rep 2nd row until there are 12 rows from the
beg; do not turn.
Work 1 row sc, working over round elastic, 3 sc in end ch
of each row on side, 2 sc in each sp on foundation ch, finish other side to correspond. Fasten off.
Sew free edge of snood to back of beret.
Adjust elastic to desired size & sew ends of elastic.
FINISHING:
Sew 1” ribbon on right side over last 4 rnds of beret.
Sew 1” ribbon on right side over last 4 rnds of beret.
Turn under for band.
Stuff beret with roll of wadding & fasten to inside of
band.
Cut pice of buckram 71/4” diameter & sew inside of
beret.
