1934 Parisian Tucked Beret & V Collar #955

This charming beret and collar duo will quickly become sensational wardrobe favorites!
The V collar is exceptionally versatile, as it may be worn with the buttons down the back or the front, for a pleasing change of look.

MATERIALS:
BERET:
J & p Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 10, 8 balls Spanish Red
Milward’s crochet hook #3
V COLLAR:
J & p Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 10, 2 balls Spanish Red & 2 balls White
Milward’s crochet hook #1

USE DOUBLE THREAD THROUGHOUT.

BERET:  
To begin, ch 5, join with sl st to form ring.

1ST RND:  8 Sc in ring.

2ND RND:  2 Sc in each sc of prev rnd.

3RD RND:  * 1 Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next [this is an inc].  Rep from * around.

4TH RND:  Sc in each of next 3 sc, then 1 inc, & cont around, making about 6 incs to this rnd.

5TH RND:  Work in this manner, but do not place incs directly over incs of prev rnd.  

To keep work flat, about 5 or more incs to rnd are necessary.

When work meas 9” in diameter, cont without inc for 4 rnds.

For next 1 ½” dec 4 sts in each rnd [to dec sk next sc & make sc in following sc] or until inside meas of beret is your headsize.

Then work without inc or dec for 2”.  Fasten off.

Make 3 or 4 vertical tucks in back for trimming, & drape to suit.

V COLLAR:
With Red, ch 102 loosely, to meas about 15 ½”, turn.

1ST ROW:  Dc in 3rd ch from hk, 1 dc in each st of foundation ch [101 dc in all], ch 3 to count as 1 dc at beg of next row], turn.

2ND TO 12TH ROWS INCL: Dc in each dc of prev row, ch 3, turn.

13TH ROW:  2 Dc in 1 st dc [this is inc], 1 dc in each of next 49 dc, making 3 incs at reg intervals.  In 51st st make 2 dc with ch-2 bet, 1 dc in each of next 49 dc, with 3 incs at reg intervals, end row with 2 dc in last dc, ch 3, turn.

14TH TO 22ND ROWS INCL:  Same as 13th row, but make 2 dc with ch-2 bet over ch-2 of prev row.  Do not make incs one over another of prev row.  Break off.   Attach White, ch 3, turn.

23RD TO 26TH ROWS INCL:  Same as 14th row, working with White.  Break off.  Attach Red, ch 3, turn.

27TH & 28TH ROWS:  Same as 17th row, working with Red.  Break off.  Attach White, ch 3, turn.

29TH TO 32ND ROWS INCL:  Same as 14th row, working with White. 

Finish both edges of collar with 4 rows of sc, working with Red over Red portions & with White over White portions.

On right side, make buttonhole loops with Red, & on left side, sew on 5 buttons covered with White.
