Vintage 1940s Sandra’s Stylish Shoulder Bag #497
Quick & easy to crochet this charming Shoulder Bag purse…stylish lines of classic design…sophisticated & smart, season-spanning, wardrobe favorites…perfect for any occasion!

MATERIALS: 
6 tubes F & K Corde, or 3 gross Soutache, or 6 oz Strawtex
#5 Bone Crochet Hook
½ yd Lining Material
Ornament
2 Initial Pins
Zipper

ABBREVIATIONS:                                      
BET    =          Between
CH      =          Chain                        
DC      =          Double Crochet
INC     =          Increase
PATT  =          Pattern
REP    =          Repeat
SC      =          Single Crochet        
SK       =          Skip
SL ST=           Slip Stitch
ST       =          Stitch

Patt for entire bag: 
1 row dc;  
1 row sl st.;  
1 row sc;  
1 row sl st.

Always use outer edge of st throughout entire bag.

Ch 4, join, ch 3.

1ST ROW:  Work 23 dc in ring, join with sl st.

2ND ROW:  Sl st around.

3RD ROW:  * 1 Sc in first st, 2 sc in next st *.  Rep bet * around row.

4TH ROW:  Sl st around.

Cont to inc enough in sc & dc rows to keep bag flat until it meas 10” across.

Make another piece.

Make paper patt from crocheted pieces & lay aside to be used later.

GUSSET & HANDLE:
Ch 14 sts, work 1 dc in third ch from hook, & 1 dc in each ch, ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW:  1 Dc in each dc of row below, ch 3 turn.

Rep 2nd row for 60”, join with sl st to form ring. 

Ch 10”.  Work 1 row dc & 1 row sc on this chain.

Make another piece.

FINISHING: 
Place 10” piece across top of bag, join to bag with shell st [holding bag side toward you]. 

Work * 1 sc in first st, sk 1 st, 5 dc in next st *.  Rep bet * for shell st.

Then join Handle to bag with shell st.

Cut lining according to paper patt & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Note:  Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between 2 layers of lining & bag to give shape extra support.

Insert finished lining in bag. 

Sew in zipper.

Attach ornament to zipper pull tab.

Attach 2 Initial Pins to outside of Bag.
