Vintage 1940s Natalie Tote Bag #496

Quick & easy to crochet this charming purse…stylish lines of classic design…sophisticated & smart, season-spanning, wardrobe favorites…perfect for any occasion!

MATERIALS: 
8 - 75 yd tubes F & K Corde,
OR
4 gross Soutache,
OR
4 gross Ribbonette
#5 Bone Crochet Hook
½ yd Lining Material
Ornament
Zipper

BAG:
Ch 63 sts.

14 Rows of sc [always working back of st throughout entire bag].

1ST ROW:  * 5 Dc in second sc, sk 1 st, 1 sc in next st *.  Rep bet * across row, ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW:  * 5 Dc in back of sc, 1 sc in back of third dc of prev row *, rep bet * across row.

Rep these 2 rows for 10 more times.

GUSSET: 
Ch 5.

1ST ROW:  5 Dc in fourth ch from hook, ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW:  5 Dc in first dc, 1 sc in third dc, 5 dc in last dc, ch 3, turn.

Cont to inc 1 shell either end until there are 7 shells across, then dec 1 shell either end until 3 shell patts rem.

Make 2 pieces.

Make paper patt from crocheted pieces & lay aside to be used later.

FINISHING: 
Insert Gusset at end of bag, below sc border, holding 1 shell patt at top of bag, & join to bag with 1 row of sc.

Cut lining according to paper patt & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Insert finished lining in bag. 

Sew in zipper.

Attach ornament to zipper pull tab.

Note:  Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between 2 layers of lining & bag to give shape extra support.
