Ch
27. Work around ch as follows:
1ST
RND: Sk 1sdt ch, put in marker, 1 sc in
every ch except last, put in marker, work 3 sc in last ch, put in marker, sc
across other side to last ch, put in marker, 3 sc in last ch.
2ND
RND: Sc [thru both loops throughout]
across to marker, work 2 sc in each of next 3 sc, work sc to other marker, work
2 sc in each of next 3 sc.
3RD
RND: Sc across to marker, * 2 sc in next
sc, 1 sc: rep from * to marker, work sc to other marker; rep from * to marker.
4TH
RND: Sc across to marker, * 2 sc, 2 sc
in next sc; rep from * to marker, work sc to other marker; rep from * to
marker.
5TH
RND: Sc across to marker, * 2 sc in next
sc, 3 sc; rep from * to marker, work sc to other marker; rep from * to
marker.
Cont
to inc 3 sts in each curved end section [between markers] every rnd, starting
even rnds with sc & odd rnds with inc & having 1 more sc between each
inc every rnd.
When
base meas 7 ½” long, work 1 rnd sc over 22” millinery wire, overlapping extra
length. Do not break yarn.
Press
lightly on wrong side with damp cloth.
Outline
base on brown paper.
Disc
incs. Work 2 rnds sc, taking both loops,
join each rnd with sl st.
Cont
in patt to form sides as follows:
1ST
RND: Hdc thru both loops. Join with sl st.
2ND,
3RD, 4TH & 5TH RNDS: Hdc in extreme back loop, thus leaving
complete ch ridge on right side of work.
Join with sl st.
6TH
RND: Sc in extreme back loop. Join with sl st.
7TH
RND: Sc thru both loops. Join with sl st. rep these 7 rnds, until there are 5 wide hdc
stripes, end with
6th
rnd. Fasten off.
HANDLE:
Ch
21”. Hdc across 1st row for
19”. Break yarn.
*
Start at beg again drawing up loop in extreme back loop of 1sdt st, ch 1. Hdc across row work in extreme back loop
only, thus leaving complete ch ridge on right side. Break yarn.
Rep from * for 1”.
Work
1 row sc around entire handle thru both loops, inc at corner to keep work
flat. Fasten off.
Press
lightly on wrong side with damp cloth.
LINING:
Cut
1 piece of plastic same size as base & 2 strips of plastic 11” long [width
of plastic] & ¼” shorter than depth of sides from top to wire.
Join
plastic for sides in one strip, overlapping ½” & sticking edges down with
scotch tape, using some across top & bottom of join.
Thread
darning needle with yarn 7 work ½” back stitch thru entire center of join,
forcing the needle thru both thicknesses of plastic. Fasten securely over ends.
Cut
2 pieces of lining ½” larger all around than plastic for base.
Encase
this plastic in lining.
Cut
1 piece lining wide enough to encase plastic strip.
Sew
along bottom, leaving ends free.
Slip
plastic into lining.
Stitch
this lining to base, overlapping plastic required amount & joining same as
before.
Sew
up lining.
FINISHING:
Line
handle & sew down for 1” at each end of bag.
Sew
zipper in place below last sc rnd.
Insert
lining in bag & hem to zipper.
