MATERIALS:

GAUGE:
4 rnds = 1½”

NOTE:
Use thread double throughout.

HAT:
Start at center, ch 12 to meas 2”.

1ST RND: 3 dc in 4th ch from hk, dc in next 7
ch, 6 dc in next ch, work along opposite side of foundation ch make dc in next
7 sts, 3 dc in last st. Join with sl st in top st of start ch.
2ND RND: Ch 3, work in front lp of each st, make 2 dc in
each of next 3 dc (3 sts inc), dc in next 7 dc, 2 dc in each of next 6 dc [6
more sts inc], dc in next 7 dc, 2 dc in each of rem 3 dc. Join with sl st in
top st of start ch.
3RD RND: Ch 3, yo, insert hk bet start ch & 1st
dc & bring it out bet 2nd & 3rd dc, draw lp thru &
compl as for dc, dc in same place as hk was brought out [bet 2nd
& 3rd dc], * yo, insert hk under foll 2 dc, draw lp thru &
compl as for dc, dc bet last 2-dc group just worked & foll dc. Rep from *
around. Join.
4TH RND: Ch 3, work in front lp of each st, make dc in
each dc, inc 10 dc at each end of oval [keep sides straight].
Rep 3rd & 4th rnds alt 3 more times,
then 3rd rnd once more.
NEXT RND: Same as 4th rnd, omit incs.
NEXT RND: Same as 3rd rnd. Fasten off.
FLARE:Place pin 4” on both sides of start ch [center back].
With right side facing, attach thread at 1 pin, ch 3 & work
as foll:
1ST ROW: Dc in back lp of each st across to
other pin, inc 14 dc evenly across. Ch 3, turn.
2ND ROW: Yo, insert hk bet 1st & 2nd
dc & bring it out bet 3rd & 4th c, draw lp thru &
compl as for dc, dc in same place as hk was brought out. Cont in patt across.
Ch 3, turn.
3RD ROW: Dc in back lp of each dc across, inc 14 dc
evenly across. Ch 3, turn.
Rep 2nd & 3r rows alt for 6” end with 2nd
row. Fasten off.
With right side facing, work row of sl sts along ridge where flare
was joined to hat, hold work in to meas 7”. Fasten off.
Make ribbon bow & sew to back of hat as shown.
