Vintage 1940s Juliette's Stylish Muff Purse #674 

A skillful needlewoman will swiftly crochet this delightful muff…A delightful, addition to the discerning woman‘s wardrobe!

Materials: 
Quaker Soutache 3 - 1 gross spools,
OR
Quaker Ribbonette
#4 Bone Crochet Hook
1 Muff Bed [or 1 yd each of Lining Material & Interfacing]

MUFF: 
Ch 61, work 1 sc into each st, ch 3, turn.

1ST ROW:  Work 2 dc into 1st st, * sk 2 sts, work 1 sc in next st, sk 2 sts, work 5 dc in next st.  Rep from * across row, ending 3 dc in last st, ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  Work 1 sc in each of first 2 dc, * yo hk, draw up lp in same st, yo hk, draw up lp in next st, yo hk, draw up lp in sc of prev row, yo hk, draw up lp in next st, yo hk, draw up lp in next st, [11 lps on hk] yo hk, & draw thru all lps, ch 1, work sc in same st as last drawn up lp; 1 sc in each of next 2 sts.  Rep from * across row, ending with 1 sc in same st as last drawn up lp, 1 sc in last st, ch 3, turn.

3RD ROW:  Work 1 sc in 1st st, * work 5 dc into st where cluster of prev row is joined tog, work sc into center of 3 sc of prev row.  Rep from * across row, ending with 1 sc in last st, ch 3, turn.

4TH ROW:  Yo hk, draw up lp in 1st st, yo hk, draw up lp in next st, yo hk, draw up lp in next st [7 lps on hk], yo hk, draw thru all lps, ch 1, work sc in same st as last drawn up lp, 1 sc into each of next 2 sts.  Rep from * of 2nd row, across row ending with yo hk, draw up lp in same st, yo hk, draw up lp in next st, yo hk, draw up lp in last st, [7 lps on hk] yo hk, & draw thru all lps, ch 3, turn.

5TH ROW:  Work 2 dc into 1st st, * work sc into center st of 3 sc of prev row, work 5 dc into st where cluster of prev row is joined tog.  Rep from * across row, ending with 2 dc where cluster is joined, 1 dc into last st, ch 1, turn.

Rep patt from 2nd row, until piece covers muff bed [about 13 ½”]. 

Work 2 rows sc around entire edge -- 3 sc into each corner st.

FINISHING: 
Sew to muff bed, pleating at top as shown in photo.

NOTE: 
As muff beds may not be readily available, you can create your own lining in the following manner:

Make paper patt for each crocheted piece & lay aside to be used later.

Cut lining according to paper patts & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Insert finished lining in bag.

Note: 
Buckram or interfacing may be inserted between bag & lining to give shape of bag extra support.
