1940s Elegant Motif Envelope Clutch #527

Quick & easy to crochet this charming clutch handbag…stylish lines of classic design…sophisticated & smart, season-spanning, wardrobe favorites…perfect for any occasion!

MATERIALS: 
1- 1 lb spool  F & K Corde, Interchangeable with Ribbonette, Bagtwist, Straw, or Soutache
#4 Bone Crochet Hook
½ yd Lining Material
Zipper
Ornament

STITCHES:                                    
BET  =       Between                       
CH    =       Chain
DC    =       Double Crochet           
REP  =       Repeat
SC    =       Single Crochet             
SL ST=      Slip Stitch
ST     =       Stitch                                      
TOG =       Together

MOTIFS:  
Ch 5, join with sl st, ch 3.

1ST ROW:  Work 19 dc in ring.  Join, ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  * Work 1 sc in next 4 sts, 3 sc in next st *.  Rep bet * 3 times [always work back loop of st].  Join, ch 1, turn.

3RD ROW:  Work 1 sc in first st * 3 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 6 sts, * rep bet * two times, end row 3 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 5 sts.  Join.

Make 50 motifs.

HALF MOTIFS:  
Ch 4, join with sl st, ch 3.

1ST ROW:  Work 11 dc in ring, ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  Work 2 sc in first st [always work back loop of st], 1 sc in next 4 sts, 3 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in last st, ch 1, turn. 

3RD ROW:  Work 2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 6 sts, 3 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 6 sts, & 2 sc in last st.

Make 10 half motifs.

ASSEMBLING:  
Join 5 squares tog; joining them from corner top corner in straight piece, & half motif to bottom end.

Make 10 strips this way.

Then join these strips tog, starting each strip 1 square lower than last.

Make paper patt from crocheted piece & lay aside to be used later.

FINISHING:  
Sew bag tog tightly, leaving top open for zipper.

Make 1 row of sc in each st around top of opening.

Cut lining according to paper patt & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Insert finished lining in bag. 

Sew zipper into bag for closure.

Attach ornament to zipper pull.

Note:  
Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between 2 layers of lining & bag to give shape extra support.
