Vintage 1940s Drawstring Bag with Colorful Details #1032

MATERIALS:
J & P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 6 balls of Black
1 spool of Gold Metallic Thread for trim
Bone Crochet Hook #6
½ yd Felt for lining
12 Bone Rings
1 2/3 yds Ribbon

Use 4 threads throughout pattern.

GAUGE:
4 sc = 1”
4 ½ rnds = 1”

BAGE PIECE [MAKE 2]:
Starting at center, ch 4.  Join.

1ST RND:  10 Sc in ring.

2ND RND:  2 Sc in each sc around. 

3RD RND:  Sc in each sc around.

4TH RND:  2 Sc in each sc around [40 sc].

5TH, 6TH & 7TH RNDS:  Sc in each sc around.

8TH RND:  * 2 Sc in next sc, sc in next sc.  Rep from * around [60 sc].

9TH RND:  3 Sc in next sc, sc in next 18 sc [top section], 3 sc in next sc, sc in each sc to end of rnd.

10TH TO 14TH RNDS INCL:  [Sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc] twice, sc in each sc to end of rnd [86 sc at end of 14th rnd].

Mark center of bottom section.

15TH RND:  [Sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group, 3 sc in center sc] twice; sc in each sc to within 12 sc of marker, 2 sc in next 24 sc, sc in each sc to end of rnd [114 sc].

16TH TO 22ND RNDS INCL:  [Sc in each sc to center sc of next 3-sc group] twice; sc in each sc to end of rnd.  Break off.

GUSSET:
Starting at short end, ch 6.

1ST ROW:  Sc in 2nd ch from hk & in each ch across.  Ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  Sc in each sc across.  Ch 1, turn.  Rep 2nd row until piece is long enough to fit around bottom of bag from 3-sc group to 3-sc group.  Do not break off.

Holding a bag piece & gusset tog, make sc thru both thicknesses around.  Break off.

Join other bag piece to other side of gusset.

DOUBLE RING:
With 4 strands of metallic thread, ch 10.  Join.

Make 12 sc in ring.  Sl st in 1st sc.  Break off.

Make another ch 10.

Draw ch thru 1st ring.  Join.

Make 12 sc in 2nd ring.  Sl st in 1st sc.  Break off.

Make 12 sets of double rings.

Sew to bag pieces as desired.

Line bag with buckram & lining material.

RING [MAKE 12]:
With black, make 12 sc in each bone ring, sl st in 1st st.  Break off.

Sew rings evenly around top.

Draw ribbon twice thru rings.

Tie ends of ribbon in bow.

MISS JULIA’S PURSE LINING NOTES:
Make paper patt for each crocheted piece before joinings & lay aside to be used later.

Cut lining according to paper patts & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Insert finished lining in bag.  Sew in zipper [if desired].

Note: 
Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between bag & lining to give shape of bag extra support.
