HEADSIZE:

22”

MATERIALS:
5 tubes Raphael Gimp
#4 Steel Crochet Hook

STITCHES:
Use Single Crochet, Double Crochet & Popcorn Stitch throughout.

POPCORN STITCH:
Make 5 dc in same st, remove hk from lp, insert hk back into 1st st made & draw lp thru st on hk, ch 1 to hold st.

NOTE:
Pick up back lp only, when working on brim.

CROWN:
Ch 4 & join with sl st to form ring.

1ST ROW:  Make 6 sc in ring.

2ND ROW:  Make 2 sc in each st of prev row.

3RD ROW:  * Make 1 sc in 1st st, 2 sc in next st [this is an inc] & rep from * 5 times more.

4TH TO 23RD ROWS:  Make 1 sc in each st & 1 inc in each inc of prev row [6 incs to row].

24TH ROW:  Make 1 sc in each st of prev row, making 1 inc in row.

There should be 139 sts in all.

BRIM:
25TH ROW:  Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, 1 pc st in next st, * 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, 1 pc in next st & rep from * to end of row, join with sl st to ch-3 at start [28 pc sts in row].

26TH ROW:  Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, * 1 pc st in next st, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts & rep from * to end of row.  Join with sl st to ch-3 at start.

Pc st is made in st before pc st of prev row. 

Before joining with sl st at end of each row, be sure to make sufficient dc to have 4 dc in bet each pc st, counting ch-3 at start as 1 dc.

27TH ROW:  Ch 3, 1 dc in next st, 1 pc st in next st, * 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, 1 pc st in next st & rep from * to end of row.  Join with sl st to ch-3 at start.

28TH ROW:  Ch 3, * 1 pc st in next st, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts & rep from * to end of row.  Join with sl st to ch-3 at start.

29TH ROW:  Make sl st in next st, ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, * 1 pc st in next st, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts & rep from * to end of row.  Join with sl st to ch-3 at start.

30TH TO 38TH ROWS:  Rep from 26th to 29th rows.

39TH ROW:  Make sl st in each st of prev row, picking up both lps.

Fold brim on 2nd row of pc sts & tack.

TASSEL HOLDER:
Ch 4 & join with sl st to form ring.

1ST ROW:  Make 6 sc in ring.

2ND ROW:  Make 2 sc in each st of prev row.

3RD ROW:  * Make 1 st in 1st st, 2 sc in next st & rep from * 5 times more [18 sts].

4TH TO 18TH ROW:  Make 1 sc in each st of prev row.  End off.

TASSEL:
Cut piece of cardboard 8” long.

Wind gimp 125 times around.

Tie one end with extra piece of gimp.

Cut tassel in center at bottom for fringe effect.

Remove cardboard & tie same end of tassel with same piece of gimp.

Pull gimp thru holder & attach tassel to center top of hat.
