1938 Lacey Sea Shell Sweater #296


Quick to create, this feminine sweater in a lacy sea shell stitch will become
a season-spanning favorite!

MATERIALS: 
J & P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 6 balls
1 Pair each #1 [2 ½ mm] & #2 [2 ¾ mm] Knitting Needles

MEASUREMENTS:
Bust:  34”;  
Length from Top of Shoulder:  22”;  
Length of Sleeve, Underarm Seam:  6 ½”

GAUGE: 
13 sts = 2”;  
12 rows = 1” 
FRONT: 
Starting at bottom, with #2 needles cast on 115 sts & k 1 row. 

Then work as follows:
2ND ROW:  P 3, * k 13, p 3.  Rep from * across.

3RD ROW:  K across.  Rep these last 2 rows once.

6TH ROW:  P 3, * 0, p 1, [k 2, p 1] 4 times, 0, p 3.  Rep from * across.

7TH ROW:  K 3, * k 2, [p 2, k 1] 4 times, k 4.  Rep from * across.

8TH ROW:  P 3, * k 1, 0, p 1, [k 2, p 1] 4 times, 0, k 1, p 3.  Rep from * across.

9TH ROW:  K 3, * k 3, [p 2, k 1] 4 times, k 5.  Rep from * across.

10TH ROW:  P 3, * k 2, 0, p 1, [k 2, p 1] 4 times, 0, k 2, p 3.  Rep from * across.

11TH ROW:  K 3, * k 4, [p 2, k 1] 4 times, k 6.  Rep from * across.

12TH ROW:  P 3, * k 3, 0, p 1, [k 2, p 1] 4 times, 0, k 3, p 3.  Rep from * across.

13TH ROW:  K 3, * k 5, [p 2, k 1] 4 times, k 7.  Rep from * across.

14TH ROW:  P 3, * k 4, p 1, [k 2, p 1] 4 times, k 4, p 3.  Rep from * across.

15TH ROW:  K 3, * k 4, [sl 1, k 2 tog, psso] 4 times, k 8.  Rep from * across. 

These last 14 rows make up patt. 

Rep patt 3 more times. 

Change to #1 needles & work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 1”.

Change to #2 needles & rep patt 11 more times.

NEXT ROW:  Work across 1st 35 sts, bind off 45 sts [starting neck shaping], work over rem 35 sts.

Hereafter work only over these last 35 sts until 2 patts have been completed.  Bind off.

Attach thread at neck edge & work opposite side to correspond.

NECK BAND: 
With right side of work facing & #1 needles, pick up 106 sts around neck edge & work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 1”.  Bind off loosely.

BACK: 
Work as for Front, omitting neck shaping.  Bind off. 

NECK BAND: 
With right side facing & #1 needles, pick up 45 sts across 3 center patts at neck edge & work in ribbing for 1”.  Bind off loosely.

SLEEVES: 
Starting at bottom with #1 needles, cast on 90 sts. 

Work in ribbing for 1”, inc 9 sts equal distances apart on last row [99 sts].

Change to #2 needles & work in patt as for Front until there are 6 patts in all.  Bind off.

FINISHING: 
Sew up underarm seams to within 7 ½” of shoulders. 

Sew up shoulder seams. 

Sew up sleeves seams & sew sleeves in.
