1935 Lacy Open-Work
Sweater #195
Elegant
shell, created in open-loop crochet, is easily & quickly done. Picture it in lovely pastels for day, or
basic black for evening. A successful
addition to your Spring & Summer wardrobe.

Nun’s
Nomotta boucle Wool, 4 balls.

BLOUSE: Ch 132.
1st row:
Sk
5 ch, 1 sc in next, * ch 7, sk 5 ch, 1 sc in next, ch 3, sk 3 ch, 1 sc in
next. Rep from * 11 times make large
& small loops, alternately. End row
with ch 3, sk 2, 1 dc in next. Ch 3,
turn.
2nd row:
Scallops: 1 dc in ch after dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next ch,
ch 1, 1 dc in next dc, ** 1 sc in ch bet sc , 1 dc in first ch of large loop
after the 2 sc, * ch 1, 1 dc in next ch.
Rep from * 5 times. Rep from **
across row, end with 1 sc in end st of prev row. Ch 7, turn.
3rd row:
Chain row: 1 sc in sp before
center dc of scallop, * ch 1, 1 sc in sp after center dc, ch 7, 1 sc in sp
before center dc of next scallop. Rep
from * to end of row, work last sc in end st of row. Ch 1, turn.
4th row:
Work
7 dc with ch 1 bet in ch sts of each large loop same as 2nd row,
& work 1 sc in ch bet 2 sc [no ch before or after sc]. End row with half scallop [4 dc] same as beg
of 2nd row. Ch 1, turn.
5th row:
1
sc after first dc, * ch 7, 1 sc in sp before center dc of next scallop, ch 1, 1
sc in sp after center dc. Rep from *
across, & end row with ch 3, 1 dc in end st of prev row. Ch 3, turn.
Rep
rows 2, 3, 4, 5 until front meas 7 ¾” [13 scallop rows], break off.
Next row: Beg sleeves. Ch 15, 1 dc in last st made on prev row. Then work ch row across, & at end, ch 17
for other sleeve. Turn.
Next row: Sk 3 ch, 1 dc in next,
ch 1, 1 dc in next, ch 1, 1 dc in next, sk 1 ch, 1 sc in next, sk 1 ch, 1 dc in
next, * ch 1, 1 dc in next. Rep from * 5
times. Sk 1 ch, 1 sc in sc. Cont scallop row across, & work also into
ch for other sleeve, sk 1 ch each side of sc bet scallops.
Work
until front meas about 11 ½” [20 scallop rows].
There should be 16 scallops in row--8 on each side of center.
Next row: Beg neck & work on
one shoulder at a time. Work ch row, end
with 2 sc in center of 8th scallop.
Ch 1, turn.
Next row: 1 sc in ch bet sc, work
scallops to edge of sleeve.
* Next row: Work ch row, end with 2
sc in center of last scallop at neck. Ch
1, turn.
Next row: Work scallop row. Rep from * twice.
Next row: Work ch row across, end
at neck with ch 3, 1 dc in sc after last scallop. Ch 3, turn.
Now
work both ends of rows straight until there are 9 short rows of scallops from beg of neck, leave yarn, & with
another ball, work other shoulder to match as follows:
Beg on 19th row in center of 8th
scallop from other side, & work ch row to edge of sleeve. Work back with scallops, end with sc in ch
bet 2 sc in 8th scallop at neck.
Break yarn, turn.
Next row: Fasten yarn in center
of first scallop at neck, & work across.
Cont
until both shoulders are same.
Last
row should end at neck. Then ch 34 for
back of neck, & join with sl st in first st at neck on first shoulder. Fasten yarn & break off.
Now
with yarn left on first shoulder, work ch row to neck.
Then
* ch 7, sk 6 sc, 1 sc in next, ch 1, sk 1 ch, 1 sc in next.
Rep from * 3 times, work last sc in scallop on 2nd
shoulder.
Finish
row to sleeve edge.
Work
until there are 10 scallop rows from back of neck. Break yarn.
Now work lower part of back on same number of scallops
as front, leave same number of sts for sleeves as on front of sleeves.
When
back is same length from sleeves as front, finish off with ch row.
Sew
side seams, leave left side open 1 ½” at bottom.
WAISTBAND:
Front
& back are made in one piece. Ch 175
for lower edge.
1st row:
1
sc in each ch to end. Ch 7, turn.
2nd row:
Sk
4 sc, 1 sc in next take up both top threads of sts. * Ch 1, sk 1 ch, 1 sc in next, ch 7, sk 8 sc,
1 sc in next. Rep from * 16 times. Ch 1, turn.
Next row: Work scallop row same
as for blouse.
Cont
until there are 7 scallop rows.
Finish
off with a ch row. Break off.
Find
center of waistband & pin right side seam of blouse at this point.
Then
pull lower edge of blouse to fit waistband.
Sew
2 ch edges tog, leave ends of band open at left side.
Finish
both edges of side opening with 1 row sc.
Finish
neck & sleeves with 1 row sc, make neck pointed in front & square in
back.
Then
work around with picot row -- * 3 sc, take up both top threads of sts, ch 3 for
picot, 1 sc in top of last sc made. Rep
from * around.
BUTTONS:
Make
4. Tie loose overhand knot 1 ½” from end
of yarn, make small ring.
Turn
ring over & hold with short end in left hand. Insert hook in ring & draw loop of long
thread thru. Ch 1 to fasten.
Work
4 sc in ring over twisted threads.
Pull
short end tight, draw up ring. Join row
with sl st in first sc.
2nd row:
Work
2 sc in each sc, take up both top threads of all sts. [10sc in row.]
3rd row:
* 2
sc in 1 sc, 1 sc in next. Rep from *
make 15 sc in row. Work 1 sc in each sc
until you have made 30 sc [2 rows].
Next row: * Sk 1 sc, 1 sc in next
2 sc. Rep from * around.
Wind
small ball of yarn & put into cover.
Crochet
1 more row, sk 1 sc after every 2 sc made.
Break off, leave end of yarn.
Sew
back button tog with yarn.
Sew
4 buttons on back edge of waist band.
Button
thru loops in crochet on front edge of band.
