Mod 1960s Nashville Dress #1173
SIZE:
Directions are for Size 10.
Changes for Sizes 12, 14, 16 & 18 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS:
Columbia-Minerva
Reflection, 1 oz Skein:
Color A - 12 (13 – 13 – 14 – 14)
Color B -  3 (2  - 4 – 4 – 4)
1 Pair "Boye" Knitting Needles #5
1 Crochet Hook #0

GAUGE:
6 sts = 1”
8 rows = 1”

MEASUREMENTS:
Lower edge to shoulder = 33½” (33¾”-34”-34¼”-34½”)
Width across shoulder = 13” (13¾”-14¼”-14¾”-15¼”)
Width across sleeve = 12¼” (12¾”-13”-13¼” -13½”).

NOTE:
When changing colors, always pick up new color from under dropped color to prevent hole.

BACK:
With #5 needles & Color A - cast on 150(154-158-162-166).

NEXT ROWS: K 1 & P 1 in ribbing for 1”.

NEXT ROWS: Start on right side with P row, work in St St to 3” above start, end with K row.

Directions are for 33½” (33¾”-34”-34¼”-34½”) dress measured from lower edge to shoulder.

To lengthen or shorten, make adjustment here.

NEXT ROWS: Dec 1 each side on next row, every 2” 2 (3-4-5-6) times then every 1” 9 (7-5-3-1) times, end with P row at 16” from start, = 126 (132-138-144-150) sts rem.

Width is 21” (22”-23”-24”-25”).

NEXT ROW: K 13 (15-17-20-22) sts, [K 2 tog, K 2] 8 times, K 36 (38-40-40-42) sts, [K 2, K 2 tog] 8 times, K to end, = 110 (116-122-128-134) rem.

Using separate skein for each color change, work as follows:

1ST ROW - RIGHT SIDE: P 12 (14-16-19-21) A, with B - K 1 & P 1 in ribbing for 25 sts, with A - P 36 (38-40-40-42), with B - K 1 & P 1 in ribbing for 25 sts, with A - P to end.

2ND ROW: With matching colors, K the K sts & P the P sts as they face you.

NEXT ROWS: Rep these 2 rows to 27” or desired length above start, end with 2nd Row.

ARMHOLES:
NEXT ROWS: Work in patt, bind off 5 (5-6-6-7) at beg of next 2 rows.

NEXT ROWS: Dec 1 each side every other row 4 (5-5-6-6) times.

NEXT ROWS: Work on 92 (96-100-104-108) sts to 1¾” (2”-2”-2¼”-2¼”) above underarm, end on right side.

NEXT ROW: With matching colors, work across 28 (29-30-32-33), K 2 tog, work to end.

Break off A & work on 91 (95-99-103-107) sts with 1 skein of B as follows:

YOKE: SIZES 10(14-16) ONLY:
NEXT ROW: on right side P 1, * K 1, P 1, rep from * across.

ROW 2: K 1, * P 1, K 1, rep from * across.

SIZES 12(18) ONLY on right side K 1, * P 1, K 1, rep from * across.

2ND ROW: P 1, * K 1, P 1, rep from * across.

ALL SIZES:
NEXT ROWS: Rep last 2 rows to 6½” (6¾”-7”-7¼”-7½”) above underarm, end with 2nd Row.

Width across shoulder is 13” (13¾”-14¼”-14¾”-15¼”) when stretched slightly.

SHOULDERS:

NEXT ROWS: Bind off 8 (8-9-9-10) at beg of next 6 (4-6-4-6) rows.

ON SIZES 12(16) ONLY:
NEXT ROWS: Bind off 9 (10) at beg of next 2 rows.

NEXT ROW: Bind off 43 (45-45-47-47) for neck.

FRONT:
Work same as back to 2½” (2¾”-2¾”-3”-3”) above underarm, end on right side with 91 (95-99-103-107) sts.

OPENING:
Work across 46 (48-50-52-54) & sl them to a holder for right front, work to end of row.

NEXT ROWS: With B - cont in ribbing on 45 (47-49-51-53) sts of left front to 5½” (5¾”-6”-6¼”-6½”) above underarm, end at opening.

NECK:
Bind off 15 (16-16-17-17) at beg of next row.

NEXT ROWS: Dec 1 at same edge EVERY row 6 times.

AT SAME TIME when armhole matches back armhole, bind off 8 (8-9-9-10) at shoulder edge 3 (2-3-2-3) times.

ON SIZES 12 (16) ONLY bind off 9 (10) at same edge once.

NEXT ROW: Start at neck, work on 46 (48-50-52-54) sts to match left front to neck, end at neck.

NECK & SHOULDER:
Bind off 16 (17-17-18-18) sts at beg of next row.

NEXT ROWS: Finish to correspond to other side.

SLEEVES:
With #5 needles & Color A - cast on 48(50-50-52-52).

NEXT ROWS: K 1 & P 1 in ribbing for 1”.

NEXT ROWS: Start on right side with P row, work in St St to 1½” from start, end with P row.

NEXT ROWS: Inc 1 each side on next row, then every 8th row 12 (12-10-10-7) times.

ON SIZES 14 (16-18) ONLY inc 1 each side every 6th row 3 (3-7) times.

NEXT ROWS: Work on 74 (76-78-80-82) sts to 17” from start, end on wrong side.

Width across is 12¼” (12¾”-13”-13¼” -13½”).

SLEEVE CAP:
Bind off 6 at beg of next 2 rows.

NEXT ROWS: Dec 1 each side every other row until 30 sts rem.

NEXT ROW: Bind off 2 at beg of next 6 rows. Bind off 18 sts.

COLLAR:
With #5 needles & Color A - cast on 103 (106-106-109-109) loosely.

NEXT ROW: P 1 row.

NEXT ROWS: Work reverse St St, inc 1 each side every row twice.

NEXT ROWS: Work 4 rows on 107 (110-110-113-113) sts.

NEXT ROWS: Dec 1 each side on next row then every 3rd row 7 times more.

NEXT ROW: Bind off the 91 (94-94-97-97) sts for neck edge.

BELT LOOPS: (MAKE 8):
With Size 5 needles & Color A - cast or 7 sts.

1ST ROW - RIGHT SIDE: K 1, * P 1, K 1 rep from * across.

2ND ROW: P 1, * K 1, P 1, rep from * across.

NEXT ROWS: Rep these 2 rows for 3½”. Bind off.

FINISHING:
Sew shoulder seams.

Turn in ¼” hem on 3 outer edges of collar, mitering corners.

Sew to neck, leave ½” free at each front.

With Color B crochet 1 row of sc around opening.

Close front with snap fasteners.

Sew in sleeves, then sew side & sleeve seams.

Turn in ¼” at each end belt lps.

Sew 2 lps to each Color B section as shown.
