1935 Button Front Leisure Blouse #517
A
clever woman quickly & very easily crochets this charming overblouse with a
delightful button detail on the bodice…all in a cool & comfortable
pattern…a season-spanning, wardrobe favorite!

MATERIALS:
Clark’s
ONT [24 balls] or J & P Coats [17 balls] Mercerized Crochet, size 10, Ecru
or White

Strand Floss, 2 skeins each of Red, Dark Orange & Black

½ dozen Red Buttons

2ND
ROW: Sc in 2nd ch from hook,
* sk 1 sc, sc in next, sc under last single loop at extreme left of sc just
made, rep from, * end with 1 sc in last sc.
Ch 2, turn.
Rep
2nd row until work meas 10”.
SHAPE
ARMHOLE:
Sl
st in 6 sc, ch 2, & cont as before to within 6 sc from end of row.
NEXT
2 ROWS: Dec 4 sc at each end.
Then
work 6” straight. Fasten off.
WAISTBAND:
Attach
thread at foundation ch, & with #9 hook work same as before along other
side of foundation ch, make band 3 ½” wide.
FRONT:
Ch
182, turn.
Work
same as back for 10”, then shape armhole by dec 6 sc at each end for next row,
then dec 4 sc at each end for following 3 rows.
Then
work straight for 6”.
Make
waistband same as for back.
SLEEVES:
Start
at bottom of sleeve, ch 116, turn.
Use
#1 hook, work 4 rows same as for back.
5TH
ROW: Work across to within 2 sts from
end, ch 2, turn. [This is 2 sc
dec].

Work 4 rows straight.
NEXT
ROW: Same as 5th row.
Rep
from * 6 more times.

Work 4 rows straight, inc 2 sc at end of next row. [To inc, after making sc in last st of prev
row, make 1 sc at side of this last sc, & 1 dc in last st of prev
row].
Rep
from ** 13 more times.
Then
shape armhole by dec 3 sts at each end of next row, & dec 2 sts at each end
for each of next 4 rows. Fasten
off.
Then
to add sts at end, ch 5, sc in 1st st of prev row & cont as
before. At end of row, ch 7, turn.
NEXT
ROW: Sc in 2nd ch from hook
& cont as before, work patt over ch-5 added at end of row.
Then
work straight for 6”. Fasten off.
FINISHING:
Sew
sleeves & underarm seams, leave waistbands open for buttons.
Finish
edges of front band with row of sc & 3 buttonhole loops.
Sew buttons on back band to correspond.
Fit
sleeves into blouse, sew in position & sew buttons on back & front as
in photo.
Trim
waistbands & sleeves at wrist with small running sts.
Start
at 1st row at bottom of waistband, work 3 rows of each contrasting
color in alternating rows.
