Butterfly Mesh Blouse #516
A
clever woman quickly & very easily crochets this charming overblouse with a
delightful scarf at the neck…all in a cool & comfortable mesh pattern of
white with navy accents…a season-spanning, wardrobe favorite!
SIZES: Directions are for size 34-36.
MATERIALS:
Clark’s
ONT Cronita
or
J
& P Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 5 balls Ecru or White, & 2 balls of Navy.

& #5 Steel Crochet Hooks
BACK: WAISTBAND:
With navy & #5 hook, ch 131, turn.
With navy & #5 hook, ch 131, turn.
1ST
ROW: 1 Sc in 3rd st from
hook, * ch 1, sk 1 st, sc in next, rep from * across. Ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: Sc under ch-1, * ch 1, sc under
next ch-1, rep from * across. Ch 1,
turn.
Rep
2nd row until work meas 3”.
1ST
ROW BUTTERFLY MESH: Change to ecru &
#3 hook, ch 3, sk first ch-1, * under next ch-1 make: 1 dc, ch 3, sl st under same ch-1, ch 3, 1 dc
under same ch-1, [this is 1 butterfly mesh] sk next ch-1 & rep from *
across, end with dc of last butterfly mesh [32 butterfly mesh]. Ch 3, turn.
2ND
ROW BUTTERFLY MESH: 1 Dc in joining tip
of 1st & 2nd butterfly mesh & complete butterfly
mesh as before, & cont making mesh to end of row. Ch 3, turn.
Rep
last row until there are 40 rows, which will be beg of armhole.
Length
should now meas approx 10 ½” from top of waistband.
SHAPE
ARMHOLE: Dec at beg & end of next 8
rows.
1ST
ROW. To dec at beg of 1st
row, after ch-3 to turn, make 1 sc in center of first 2 mesh of preceding row,
then ch 3, beg regular butterfly mesh bet next 2 mesh. At end, after last butterfly mesh, sc in last
dc of last mesh of preceding row, ch 3, turn.
2ND
ROW: Work patt bet 1st &
2nd mesh ending now with sc in last dc of last mesh of prev row.
3RD
THRU 8TH ROWS: Same as 2nd
[23 mesh left on 8th row] work straight for 4 ¼” [15 rows].
Dec
1 butterfly mesh at armhole side for 6 rows.
Fasten off.
FRONT:
With navy & #5 hook, ch 139 & make same as back incl dec for armhole, but have 34 butterfly mesh over waist band.

SHAPE
NECKLINE:
On next row turn at neck after 7th mesh has been made approx 3 ½” from armhole.

Complete
one side making neck edge straight & dec for shoulder as in back [5
rows]. Fasten off.
Finish
other side same way.
SLEEVES:
With navy, make ch 10” long.

Then
work 8 rows as at waist, then change to ecru & work 12 straight rows of
butterfly mesh [22 butterfly mesh].
Cont
for 16 rows, dec ½ patt at beg & end of each row.
Last
row will be approx 2” long [6 butterfly mesh].
JOINING:
Whip tog with ecru.
Whip tog with ecru.
Finish
neckline with 4 rows of sc worked closely using navy.
Make
buttonhole loops at sides of front waistband with navy, as follows: Fasten thread in 1st st at corner.
Ch 9, sk approx 3/8” & work 6 sc, ch 9, sk 3/8”, 6 sc & so on, making 4
loops.
Then
sew buttons on directly opposite loops.
SCARF:
Beg with ecru, ch 80, turn.
Beg with ecru, ch 80, turn.

ROW. Sl st in 6th st from
hook, ch 3, dc in same st, * sk 6 ch, make 1 dc in next st, ch 3, sl st in same
st in which dc was made, ch 3, 1 dc in same st.
Rep from * to end of row. Ch 3,
turn.
2ND
THRU 6TH ROWS: * 1 Dc in
center of 2 mesh of preceding row, ch 3, sl st in same st in which dc was made,
ch 3, 1 dc in same st, & rep from * to end of row.
Change
to navy at end of 6th row & ch 1 to turn.
7TH
THRU 11TH ROWS: With navy
make sc into every loop of mesh, with ch 1 bet each sc keeping work flat.
12TH
THRU 17TH ROWS: Cont in
butterfly mesh with ecru, making butterfly mesh in every 2nd ch-1.
18TH
THRU 22ND ROWS: Change to
navy & work as from 7th to 11th rows in.
23RD
THRU 65TH ROWS: Change to
ecru & cont in butterfly mesh [approx 17”].
Then
make slit by working in butterfly mesh to center of scarf only instead of to
end of row, for 6 rows. Break
thread.
Join
to center of row at base of slit & work for 6 rows.
Then
cont across entire row [closing up slit] for 5 rows.
Make
5 rows of sc & ch-1 with navy, 6 rows of butterfly mesh in ecru, 5 more
rows of sc & ch 1 with navy & finish with 6 rows of butterfly mesh in
ecru.
On
last row make ch-3 p bet each butterfly mesh.
At
beg of scarf, join thread to last
butterfly mesh, ch 3, * ch-3 p, 1 sc under ch loop, ch 3, 1 sc at bottom
of butterfly mesh, ch 3, 1 sc under next ch loop, & rep from * to end of
row.
