Free Patterns - 1935 Mesh Glove with Open Lace Cuff #1024

Vintage 1935 Mesh Glove with Open Lace Cuff  #1024

MATERIALS:
Clark’s ONT 4 balls
OR
J & P Coats Mercerized Crochet, size #20,  3 balls
4 Buttons
Milward’s Steel Crochet Hook #6

PALM:
Beg at wrist ch 84 [to meas about 7 ½”] turn.

1ST ROW:  Dc in 4th ch from hk, * ch 1, sk 1 st of foundation ch, dc in next st, & rep from * to end of ch [41 sps in all].  Ch 4, turn.

2ND TO 9TH ROWS INCL:  Dc in 1st sp of prev row, * ch 1, dc in next sp, & rep from * to end of row [41 sps in all].

When 9th row is completed, ch 9 & join with dc to 1st sp of same row to close up opening, & work in rnds, then make 46 sps in next rnd, distributing 6 sps over ch 9.

10TH TO 18TH RNDS INCL:  * Ch 1, dc in next sp, & rep from * around.

19TH RND:  Lay work down, having opening in center & work sps [about 5 sps from center opening for left hand glove] towards folded edge, chen ch 15, sk 8 sps, dc in 9th sp, * ch 1, dc in next sp, & rep from * around, making 9 sps over ch-15 [48 sps].

20TH TO 31ST RNDS INCL:  Same as 15th rnd [48 sps in rnd].

FINGERS:
Forefinger should be directly above thumb opening.

Work across 6 sps from outside edge of finger, ch 8, cross over to inside of glove & make 1 dc in 6th sp from outside edge, then * ch 1, dc in next sp, & rep from * around [making 4 sps over ch-8] until there are about 15 rnds [16 sps].

Try on, & if too short, cont working till length desired.  It is better not to have fingers too long.

Draw top tog & finish off.

MIDDLE FINGER:
Attach thread to bottom of forefinger at back of glove & work across 6 sps, ch 4, cross to palm side of glove, & make 1 dc in 6th sp from forefinger. 

Work across these 6 sps, then over sps bet fingers, & cont around until there are about 17 rnds [18 sps].  Finish off as before.

RING FINGER:
Same as middle finger [16 sps] until there are about 16 rnds.

LITTLE FINGER:
Same as forefinger [14 sps], until there are about 13 rnds.

THUMB:
Attach thread & work around thumb opening until there are about 14 rnds [17 sps].  Finish off as before.

FINISH OPENING:
Attach thread to 1st sp at palm on little finger side.

1ST ROW:  3 Dc in 1st sp of opening, * 2 dc in next sp, & rep from * to end of opening.  Ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  Sc in each dc of 1/3 of opening, then ch 4 [or more depending on size of buttonhole desired], sk 4 sc, sc in each dc of 1/3 of same opening, make another buttonhole as prev one, & complete by making sc in each dc  to end.  Ch 1, turn.

3RD ROW:  Sc in each sc, & 5 sc [or more] over each buttonhole.

Work other side of opening same as this, but with no buttonholes.

CUFF:
Attach thread to 1st sc of opening at wrist & ch 3.

1ST ROW:  Dc in sc, 2 dc over dc at opening, 3 dc in each sp over foundation ch, ch 4, turn.

2ND ROW:  * Sk 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 3 & rep from * to end of row.  Ch 5, turn.

3RD ROW:  Tr in 1st lp, * ch 1, tr in same lp, ch 1, tr in same lp, tr in next lp, tr in next lp, & rep from * ending with 3 tr with ch-1 bet in last lp.  Ch 4, turn.

4TH ROW:  Sc over ch-1 bet 1st 2 tr, * ch 1, sc over next ch-1, ch 2, sk 3-tr [care must be taken to have ch-2 lps come over 3 consecutively worked tr], sc over ch-1, & rep from * to end of row.  Ch 5, turn.

5TH ROW:  Same as 3rd row, but always make single tr over ch-1 lps, & 3 tr with ch-1 bet over ch-2 lps.

6TH, 7TH & 8TH ROWS:  Rep 4th & 5th rows.

9TH ROW:  Same as 5th row, but to widen gauntlet slightly, inc in 3 places at reg intervals by working over ch-2 lps of prev row as follows:  1 tr, ch 1, 1 tr, ch 1, 3 tr, ch 1, 1 tr, ch 1, 1 tr.

10TH TO 18TH ROWS INCL:  Rep 4th & 5th rows.

19TH ROW:  Same as 9th row.

20TH, 21ST & 22ND ROWS:  Rep 4th & 5th rows.

Finish edge of gauntlet as follows:
1ST ROW:  Attach thread to 1st dc at wrist & work row of ch-3 lps around edges.  Ch 3, turn.

2ND ROW:  2 Dc in 1st lp, * ch 4, sc in 1st ch of ch-4 for a p, 2 dc in same lp, sc in next lp, 2 dc in next lp, & rep from * to end.

Sew buttons to correspond with buttonholes.

RIGHT GLOVE:
Follow same directions as before, but reverse position of thumb & buttonholes.
