1930s “Beyrouth” Sophisticate Lace Dress #443

Quick & easy to knit this charming lace dress…a sophisticated, season-spanning wardrobe favorite…perfect for many occasions!

SIZE:  16.

MATERIALS:
Minerva Dusteen, White- 11 Balls [approx 153 yds ea]
1 each #1 & #2 Circular Knitting Needles, 29”
1 Pair # 2 Knitting Needles, 12”

GAUGE:  6 sts= 1”;     1 patt = 1 ¾”

MEASUREMENTS:
Bust:  35"
Waist:  29"
Hip:  38"

SKIRT;  
With # 2 Circular Needles, cast on 240 sts.  Join, be careful not to twist sts.  Work in patt as follows [mark beg of row]:

1ST ROW:  * K. 6, yo, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 2 tog, yo, rep from * around row.

2ND ROW:  K all sts.

FOLLOWING ROWS:  Work Rows 1 & 2, 4 more times.

11TH ROW:  K 1, * yo, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 2 tog, yo, k 6, rep from * around row end yo, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 2 tog, yo, k 5.

12TH ROW:  K all sts.

FOLLOWING ROWS:  Work Rows 11 & 12, 4 more times.

These 20 rows form patt in which entire dress is worked.

Work even in patt for 19”.

Change to # 1 Needle & work even for 9”.

K 1 row, k every 11th & 12th sts tog.

Work 2” in ribbing [k 1, p 1]; k 1 row, k every 21st & 22nd sts tog.

BLOUSE:  
Change to # 2 Circular Needle.

Work even in patt for 6 ½“, then with #2 Straight Needles, work across 105 sts [front], dividing sts in middle of band of k 6, thus:  k 3, work patts, & end row k 3.

Place rem sts on thread or st holder [back].

Work back & forth on these sts, all even rows of patt will be p rows.

Work even for 5 ½“, then bind off 5 sts at beg of every row 8 times for slanting shoulders.

Bind off rem sts.

Pick up sts from st holder & work even for 5 ½“.

Bind off 5 sts at beg of each of next 6 rows, then 7 sts at beg of each of following 2 rows.

Bind off rem sts.

Sew shoulder seams.

Work 1 row sc around neck & armholes, holding them in slightly.

Work beading for elastic inside ribbing.

BANDS:  
On #2 Needles, cast on 6 sts & work in patt, inc 1 st at end of every 6th row 20 times, be careful to keep patt even.

All incs & decs are on one side, keep other side even [work meas about 13 ½“].

Cont in patt, dec 1 st at the end of every 6th row until 6 sts rem.  Bind off.

Work other band to correspond, inc & dec at beg of every 6th row.

FINISHING:  
Work 1 row sc around bands & block to measure 30” in length.


Pin the straight edge 1 ½“ from sleeve edge, & lower points, which come to bottom of ribbing in front & back, about 5” from line of underarm.  

Sew in place.
