Vintage 1930s Suzette’s Sweater Cape #1191

MATERIALS:
Patons Super Scotch Fingering Wool, 3 Ply - 5 ozs  - Yellow
and
Fuzzy Wuzzy Angora, ½ oz - 1 Ball - White
1 Pair Knitting Needles UK #1/7.5mm
5 Stitch Holders
1 Crochet Hook UK #13/2.25mm/US #B/1

MEASUREMENTS:
Length from Top of Shoulder = 18”
Width around at Underarm = 34” - 36” (real meas = 38”)
Length of Sleeve from Underarm = 6½”

GAUGE/TENSION:
4 Garter sts = 1”

PATTERN:
RIGHT FRONT:
Cast on 48 sts.

NEXT ROWS: K 12 rows.

NEXT ROWS: Cont K, inc once at end of needle in next & every following 12th row, until there are 51 sts on needle.

NEXT ROWS: K 10 rows without shaping.

NEXT ROW: Cast off 2 sts, K to end of row.

NEXT ROWS: Dec once at armhole edge in next & every alt row until 43 sts rem.

NEXT ROW: K 1 row without shaping.
Leave these sts on holder.

LEFT FRONT:
Cast on 48 sts.

NEXT ROWS: K 12 rows.

NEXT ROWS: Cont K, inc once at beg of needle in next & every following 12th row, until there are 51 sts on needle.

NEXT ROWS: K 9 rows without shaping.

NEXT ROW: Cast off 2 sts, K to end of row.

NEXT ROWS: Dec once at armhole edge in every alt row until 43 sts rem.

NEXT ROW: K without shaping.

Break off wool & leave these sts on holder.

BACK:
Cast on 66 sts.

NEXT ROWS: K 12 rows.

NEXT ROWS: Cont K sts, inc once at each end of needle in next & every following 12th row, until there are 72 sts on needle.

NEXT ROWS:  K 9 rows without shaping.

NEXT ROWS: Cast off 2 sts at beg of each of next 2 rows.

NEXT ROWS: Dec once at each end of needle in next & every alt row until 56 sts rem.

NEXT ROW: K without shaping.

Break off wool & leave these sts on holder.

SLEEVES:
Cast on 84 sts.

NEXT ROWS: K 18 rows.

19TH ROW: * K12, K2tog, rep from * to end of row.

NEXT ROWS: K 9 rows.

29TH ROW: * K11, K2tog, rep from * to end of row.

NEXT ROWS: K 9 rows.

39TH ROW: * K10, K2tog, rep from *to end of row.

40TH ROW: K.

41ST ROW: Cast off 2 sts, K to end of row.

NEXT ROWS: Rep 41st row 7 times.

49TH ROW: Cast off 2 sts, K1, * K9, K2tog, rep from * to last 14 sts, K14.

50TH ROW: Cast off 2 sts, K to end of row.

Break off wool & leave these sts on holder.

Work 2ND SLEEVE in same way.

NEXT ROWS: Start again on sts of RIGHT FRONT, K to end of row; K sts of 1ST SLEEVE, BACK, 2ND SLEEVE & LEFT FRONT onto end of same needle = 228 sts.

CONT AS FOLLOWS:
NEXT ROWS: K 7 rows.

8TH ROW: K14, (K2, K2tog) 22 times, K24, (K2tog, K2) 22 times, K14.

NEXT ROWS: K 9 rows.

18TH ROW: K13, (K2, K2tog) 17 times, K22, (K2tog, K2) 17 times, K13.

NEXT ROWS: K 9 rows without shaping.

28TH ROW: K13, (K2, K2tog) 13 times, K20, (K2tog, K2) 13 times, K13.

NEXT ROWS: K 9 rows without shaping.

38TH ROW: K5, (K1, K2tog) 38 times, K5.

39TH ROW: K.

40TH ROW: K1, * yo, K2tog, rep from * to last st, K1.

NEXT ROWS: K 8 rows. Cast off.

FINISHING:
With damp cloth & hot iron, press carefully.

Sew up side & sleeve seams.

Sew sleeves in place.

Use 4 strands of wool 100” long, make twisted cord, & thread thru holes at neck.

Make 2 tassels & attach to each end of cord.

EDGING:
With RS of work facing, join Fuzzy-Wuzz" Angora at neck edge; work DC 1” high, work along neck edge as follows:

1ST ROW: CH 5 ch, [1 DC in 1st st, ch 3, 1 sl st into 1st ch (picot)] twice, 1 DC in same st, * sk 1 st, (1 DC, 1 picot, 1 DC, 1 picot, 1 DC) in next st, rep from * to end of row. Fasten off.

Join Angora at sleeves, work edging in same way, join with sl st at end of row.
