Vintage Stylish Hat with Brim & Muff #269

Quick & easy to create, this stylish hat with matching muff will become a season favorite!

MATERIALS: 

MUFF:  2 - 4 oz skeins Mary Lamb Knitting Worsted

HAT:  1 - 4 oz skeins Mary Lamb Knitting Worsted

#5 Crochet Hook

Lining Material

Spangles

MUFF: 

Ch 59 sts, sk 1 st, 1 sc in each ch st.

2^ND ROW:  Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st. 

Rep row 2 for 31”. 

Sew Muff tog. 

Pick up sts at side of Muff.

NEXT RND:  Work in sc, inc every 6^th st.

String spangles on yarn & push down.

Work 1 row of loops as follows:  * Insert hook in next st, wind wool over left index finger once toward you [2 loops on finger] bring loop thru from underneath, then  in bet loop, drop loop from finger, rep from * pushing up a spangle every 5^th loop.

NEXT RND:  ** Rnd of sc.

NEXT RND:  1 Rnd of loops.  Rep from * 2 more times. 

Work other side same.

Using crocheted pieces at patt, cut lining, sew tog, insert in muff, & back stitch in place.

HAT: 

Ch 3, join, 6 sc in ring, 2 sc in each st.

1^ST RND:  * 1 Sc in first st, 2 sc in next st.  Rep from * 5 more times. 

2^ND RND:  * 1 Sc in first 2 sts, 2 sc in next st.  Rep from * 5 more times.

3^RD RND:  * 1 Sc in first 3 sts, 2 sc in next st.  Rep from * 5 more times. 

Cont to work in above manner, having 1 st more bet each inc every rnd until there are 100 sts. 

Work even on these sts until piece measures 8” from point.

LONG & SHORT ROWS:  1 Sc in next 24 sts.  Join with sl st, turn, sk sl st, 1 sc in next 27 sts, join sl st, turn, sk sl st 1 sc in next 30 sts, join, work sl st, turn. 

Cont to work in above manner always having 3 sts more at each end of short rows, until 17 rows in all have been made. 

Place marker at center back of hat. 

Work to marker, * ch 1 turn, 1 sc in each st to other side of marker. 

Join with sl st into ch 1 of prev rnd.  Rep from * 2 more times.

TRIM FOR HAT: 

Ch 6.  Join.  Ch 3, 23 dc in ring.  Join.

NEXT RND:  Ch 3, 1 dc in same st as sl st, 2 dc in each st.  Join.

NEXT RND:  Ch 3, 1 dc in same st as sl st, * [1 dc ch 1, 1 dc ch 1] in same st.  Rep from * around, join.

NEXT RND:  * In every ch 1 sp, work [1dc ch 1, 1 dc ch 1] rep from * around. 

Sew spangles to trim & sew to hat as shown in photo.

Use Hat Stiffener on finished hat.
