TENSION
& MEASUREMENTS:
Worked at a tension of one repeat of the pattern for 1 ¾ inches in width.

The
measurements are attained without pressing:
bust - 32 inches; length - 16 ½ inches; sleeve [underarm seam] 7 ½
inches.
BACK:
Begin
at the lower edge by casting on 118 sts with # 9 needles.
Work
6 rows in garter st, working into the back of the sts on the first row to give
a neat edge.
Still
using # 9 needles, begin
the lacy pattern as follows::
1st row [right side]: * K 1, m 1, k 4, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 2 tog, k 4, m 1; repeat from * until 1 st remains, k 1.
1st row [right side]: * K 1, m 1, k 4, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 2 tog, k 4, m 1; repeat from * until 1 st remains, k 1.
2nd
row: All purl.
Repeat
the 1st and 2nd row 4 times more.
11th
row: All purl.

These

SLEEVE TOP:
Work
the 14 rows of armhole shaping as on the Back, then slip the remaining 66 sts
on a stitch-holder until needed.
Work
a second sleeve the same.
To
join all the pieces together work as follows:
With
the right side of work facing, pattern along the Right Front thus: K 6, * k 1, m 1, k 4, sl 1, k 1, psso, k2
tog, k 4, m 1; repeat from * until 1 st remains k this remaining st tog with
the first st on sleeve [thus joining the two pieces tog], then pattern along
the sleeve st thus: **, knitting the
last st on last repeat tog with the first st on the Back, then repeat from **
along the second sleeve sts, and the Left Front [as from **], joining the
pieces tog by working the last and first sts tog as described before, and
ending the last repeat on the Left Front with m 1, k 7, instead of m 1, k 1
[286 sts].
Work
19 rows more in pattern [as on the Back], beginning with the 2nd
pattern row, but k 6 sts extra to the Back pattern at the beginning and end of
every row for front garter st borders.
1st
buttonhole row: K 2, cast off 2 [1 st
on needle], k 1, then finish the row in pattern until 6 sts remain, k 6 for
garter st border.
