Vintage Ripple Knit Jacket #118

MATERIALS:
4 oz of Templeton’s Super Baby Wool
Pair of #9 Knitting needles
4 buttons

TENSION & MEASUREMENTS:
Worked at a tension of one repeat of the pattern for 1 ¾ inches in width.

The measurements are attained without pressing:  bust - 32 inches; length - 16 ½ inches; sleeve [underarm seam] 7 ½ inches.

BACK:
Begin at the lower edge by casting on 118 sts with # 9 needles.

Work 6 rows in garter st, working into the back of the sts on the first row to give a neat edge.

Still using # 9 needles, begin the lacy pattern as follows::
1st row [right side]:  * K 1, m 1, k 4, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 2 tog, k 4, m 1; repeat from * until 1 st remains, k 1.

2nd row:  All purl.

Repeat the 1st and 2nd row 4 times more.

11th row:  All purl.

12th row:  All knit.

These 12 rows form the pattern, so repeat them 5 times more and the first 10 rows again to the armholes.

SHAPE ARMHOLES:

2nd row:  Cast off 13 sts, k to the end.

Leave these sts on a stitch-holder until needed.

Repeat the 1st and 2nd rows 4 times more.

11th row:  K 6, then purl to the end of the row.

These 12 rows set the pattern, so repeat them 5 times more and the first 11 rows again to the armhole.

Cast off 13 sts, k to the end of the row.

2nd row:  K 6, * k 1, m 1, k 4, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 2 tog, k 4, m 1; repeat from *, ending the last repeat with k 5 instead of k 4, m 1.

Work 19 rows more in pattern [as on the Back], beginning with the 2nd pattern row, but k 6 sts extra to the Back pattern at the beginning and end of every row for front garter st borders.
