Vintage Knit Caplet Jacket # 119

MATERIALS: 

Patons Beehive Bedjacket Floss or Patons Fair isle Fingering 7 oz
2 #9 & 2 #8 Beehive or Queen Bee needles
3 buttons

MEASUREMENTS: 

To fit a 36-38” bust:  Length at center back, 19 ½”

TENSION:
7 sts & 9 rows = one square inch on #9 needles measured over stocking stitch.

RIGHT FRONT:
Using #9 needles & the two needle method, cast on 71 sts & work picot hem as follows: 

1^st row:  K.

2^nd row:  P.

3^rd row:  K 1, * w f, k 2 tog, rep from * to end.

4^th row:  P.

5^th & 6^th rows:  As 1^st & 2^nd.

7^th row:  Make hem by knitting tog one st from needle & one loop from cast-on edge all across row. **

Change to #8 needles.   Next row:  K, casting on 40 sts at end of row [111 sts] *** K 10 rows.

Work lace insertion as follows: 

1^st row:  * K 3, k 2 tog, w f, k 1, w f, k 2 tog tbl, k 2, rep from * to last st, k 1.

2^nd & alternate rows:  K.

3^rd row:  * K 2, k 2 tog, w f, k 3, w f, k 2 tog tbl, k 1, rep from * to last st, k 1.

5^th row:  * K 1, [k 2 tog w f]  twice, k 1, [w f, k 2 tog tbl] twice, rep from * to last st, k 1.

7^th row:  [K2 tog, w f] twice, * k 3, w f, k 2 tog tbl, w f, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, w f, k 2 tog, w f, rep from * to last 7 sts, k 3 [w f, k 2 tog tbl] twice.

9^th row:  * K 2, w f, k 2 tog tbl, w f, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, w f, k 2 tog, w f, k 1, rep from * to last st, k 1.

11^th row:  * K 3, w f, k 2 tog tbl, k 1, k 2 tog, w f, k 2, rep from * to last st, k 1.

13^th row:  * K 4, w f, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, w f, k 3, rep from * to last st,, k 1.

14^th row:  K.

15^th to 23^rd rows:  K.

24^th row:  K 5, [k 2 tog, k 9] 9 times, k 2 tog, k 5 [101 sts].

25^th to 28^th rows:  K.

29^th to 42^nd rows:  As rows 1-14 incl of lace insertion.

43^rd to 51^st rows:  K.

52^nd rows:  K 2, [k 2 tog, k 3] 19 times, k 2 tog, k 2 [81sts].

53^rd to 56^th rows:  K.

57^th to 70^th rows:  As rows 1-14 incl of lace insertion.

71^st to 79^th rows:  K.

80^th row:  K 1, [k 2 tog, k 2] 20 times [61 sts].

81^st to 84^th rows:  K.

85^th to 98^th rows:  As rows 1 14 incl of lace insertion.

99^th to 107^th rows:  K.

108^th row:  [K 1, k 2 tog] 20 times, k 1 [41 sts].

109^th to 112^th rows:  K.

113^th to 126^th rows:  As  rows 1-14 incl of lace insertion.

127^th to 135^th rows:  K.

136^th row:  K 1, [k 2 tog] 20 times [21 sts].

137^th to 140^th rows:  K.

141^st to 154^th rows:  As  rows 1-14 incl of lace insertion.

155^th row:  K 2 tog, k to last 2 sts, k 2 tog.

156^th row:  K.

Rep  155^th & 156^th rows twice more.  

Dec 1 st at both ends of every row until 3 sts remain.

Thread wool through remaining sts & fasten off securely.

LEFT FRONT: 

Using #9 needles, cast on 71 sts. 

Work as Right Front until ** is reached.

Change to #8 needles. Next row:  Cast on 40 sts, k to end [111 sts]. 

Work as right front from *** to end.

LEFT HALF OF BACK: 

Using #9 needles, cast on 71 sts. 

Work as Right Front until 154^th row has been worked [21 sts].

Next row:  K to last 2 sts, k 2 tog.

Next row:  K.  Work these 2 rows 5 times more.  Cast off.

RIGHT HALF OF BACK: 

Using #9 needles, cast on 71 sts. 

Work as Left Front until 154^th row has been worked [21 sts].

Next row:  K 2 tog, k to end.

Next row:  K.  Work these 2 rows 5 times more.  Cast off.

COLLAR [First Half]: 

Using #9 needles & the two needle method, cast on 91 sts.

Work rows 1-7 incl of picot hem as on Front.  K 9 rows.

Work rows 1-14 incl of lace insertion.

K 8 rows.  Cast off.

Work Second Half in same manner.

WELT: 

Using a flat seam, join side & center back seams.

Using #9 needles, with right side of work facing, omitting picot edges, knit up 40 sts from cast-on edge on Left Front, knit up 80 sts across Back, 40 sts from Right Front [160 sts].

Next row:  * K 1, k 2 tog, k 2, k 2 tog, rep from * to last 6 sts, [k 2, k 1] twice [114 sts].

Change to #8 needles & k 42 rows.  Cast off loosely.

TO MAKE UP:

Press lightly. 

Fold welt in half & stitch down cast-off edge to knitted-up edge on wrong side of work. 

Join ends of Collar & placing joins at center back of neck, stitch Collar into position, stitching other edges down at top of welt. 

Work 3 button loops along right edge of welt. 

Attach buttons to correspond. 

Press seams.
