Vintage Lace Sweater Jacket #641

A clever needlewoman will quickly knit this blithe & elegant sweater…perfect for lounging!

SIZE: 
38“- 40“ bust.

Materials:
7 oz Patons Halcyon 2-ply
1 Pair each #11 & #12 Knitting Needles
Ribbon
Elastic

GAUGE:  
#11 Needles:  8 sts & 10 rows = 1” sq

MEASUREMENTS: 
Bust 38” - 40”; 
Sleeve 18”; 
Length from top of Shoulder 22”


JACKET:  RIGHT FRONT: 
Using two #11 needles, cast on 83 sts.

1ST ROW:  K.

2ND ROW:  P.

3RD ROW:  K 1, * wl fwd, k 2 tog; rep from * to end.

4TH ROW:  P.

5TH ROW:  K.

NEXT ROW:  Make picot edge by p tog 1 st from needle & 1 lp from cast-on edge.

WORK BORDER PATT as follows
1ST ROW:  K 2, * wl fwd, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 5, k 2 tog, wl fwd, k 1; rep from * to last st, k 1.

2ND & EVERY ALTERNATE ROW:  K 1, p to last st, k 1.

3RD ROW:  K 3, * wl fwd, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 3, k 2 tog, wl fwd, k 3; rep from * to end.

5TH ROW:  K 4, * wl fwd, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 1, k 2 tog, wl fwd, k 5; rep from * to last 9 sts, wl fwd, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 1, k 2 tog, wl fwd, k 4.

7TH ROW:  K 5, * wl fwd, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, wl fwd, k 7; rep from * to last 8 sts, wl fwd, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, wl fwd, k 5.

Rep rows 9 thru 24 twice more, dec 1 st by k 2 tog at end of last row.

WORK ALL-OVER PATT as follows
1ST ROW:  K 1, * k 2, k 2 tog, wl fwd, k 4; rep from * to last st, k 1.

2ND & EVERY ALTERNATE ROW:  K 1, p to last st, k 1.

3RD ROW:  K 1, * k 1, k 2 tog, wl fwd, k 5; rep from * to last st, k 1.

5TH ROW:  K 1, * k 2 tog, wl fwd, k 6; rep from * to last st, k 1.

7TH ROW:  K 1, * k 4, wl fwd, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 2; rep from * to last st, k 1.

9TH ROW:  K 1, * k 5, wl fwd, sl 1, k 1, psso, k 1; rep from * to last st, k 1.

11TH ROW:  K 1, * k 6, wl fwd, sl 1, k 1, psso; rep from * to last st, k 1.

Rep 12 rows of all-over patt 6 times more, then rep 1st row.

SHAPE ARMHOLES: 
Keeping continuity of patt, cast off 4 sts at beg of next & every alternate row until 70 sts rem; then 3 sts at beg of every alternate row following until 64 sts rem; finally cast off 2 sts at beg of every alternate row until 60 sts rem. 

Proceed on these 60 sts until work meas 4” from start of armhole shaping.

CHANGE TO #12 NEEDLES, & cont in patt until work meas 6” from start of armhole shaping, finishing at front edge.

SHAPE NECK: 
Cast off 12 sts at beg of next row, then dec 1 st at neck edge on next & every alternate row until 42 sts rem. 

Keep on these 42 sts until work meas 8” from start of armhole shaping, finishing at armhole edge.

SHAPE SHOULDER: 
Cast off 14 sts at beg of next & every alternate row until all sts are cast off.

LEFT FRONT: 
Work as for Right Front, omit 1st row of all-over patt after patt has been worked 7 times, thus reversing armhole & neck shapings.

BACK: 
Using two #11 needles, cast on 143 sts & work picot edge as on Front. 

Work rows 1 thru 24, 9 thru 24, then 9 thru 23, as Border Patt on Right Front.

NEXT ROW:  P 15, [p 2 tog, p 26] 4 times, p 2 tog, p to end [138 sts].

Cont on these 138 sts, rep rows 1 thru 12 of all-over patt, until work meas same as Fronts up to armhole shapings.

SHAPE ARMHOLES: 
Cast off 2 sts at beg of next 10 rows [118 sts].

Cont in all-over patt until work meas 4” from start of armhole shaping.

CHANGE TO #12 NEEDLES, & cont in patt until work meas 8” from start of armhole shapings.

SHAPE SHOULDER: 
Cast off 13 sts at beg of next 6 rows.  Cast off.

SLEEVES: 
Using two #11 needles, cast on 153 sts.

Work picot edge as on Right Front, then work rows 1 thru 24 of border patt.

NEXT ROW:  K 3 tog all along [51 sts].

CHANGE TO #12 NEEDLES, & k 5 rows.

NEXT ROW:  Inc by working into BACK & front of every st [102 sts].

NEXT ROW:  K 1, p 12 [inc in next st, p 24] 3 times, inc in next st, p to last st, k 1 [106 sts].

CHANGE TO #11 NEEDLES, & proceed in all-over patt, inc in first & last st but 1, on 13th & every following 6th row, until there are 130 sts on needle. 

Proceed on these 130 sts until work meas 18” from start.

SHAPE TOP: 
Cast off 8 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 

Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 

Cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows [102 sts]. 

Now cast off 1 st at beg of every row until 48 sts rem. 

Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 4 rows. 

Cast off, working 2 sts tog all along row.

Work another sleeve in same manner.

NECKBAND: 
Join shoulders of Back & Fronts tog.

Using #12 needles & with right side of work facing, rejoin wool & knit up 104 sts.

1ST ROW:  K.

2ND ROW:  K 2, * wl fwd, k 2 tog, k 1; rep from * to end.

3RD & 4TH ROWS:  K.

5TH ROW:  K 1, p to last st, k 1.

6TH ROW:  K 1, * wl fwd, k 2 tog; rep from * to end.

7TH ROW:  K 1, p to last st, k 1.

8TH ROW:  K.  Cast off.

FRONT PICOT EDGE: 
Using #12 needles, & with right side of work facing, knit up 111 sts down front edge.

1ST ROW:  P.

2ND ROW;  K.

3RD ROW:  K 1, * wrn, p 2 tog; rep from * to end.

4TH ROW:  K.

5TH ROW:  P.  Cast off loosely.

Work other side to match.

FINISHING: 
Press all pieces of work on wrong side. 

Sew down picot edging on fronts & neckband. 

Stitch side & sleeve seams by sewing to corresponding ridges [formed by st knitted at each end of every row]. 

Stitch sleeves into position. 

Stitch elastic on wrong side of 5 knitted rows at wristbands. 

Thread ribbon thru neckband. 

Press picot edge neatly & press all seams.
