Vintage Formal Glamour Cape # 333

Materials: 
10 oz. Bear Brand or Fleisher’s Jiffy Nylon ‘n Wool, color A

1 tube Bucilla Metalix non-tarnish metal thread, color B

1 Pair #10 Knitting needles

#5 Crochet Hook

Gauge:  9 sts = 2”;     6 rows = 1”

Measurements [for blocking]:

Length from lower edge to neck edge, hemmed is 15”

Beg at neck edge, with A, cast on 63 sts.  P 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row.

1^st inc row:  right side:  K 5, * inc 1 st by knitting in back of next st in row below, then k the next st, k 2; rep from * 17 times, end last rep k 6; 81 sts.  P 1 row, k 1 row, p 1 row.

2^nd inc row:  K 6, * inc 1 st as before, k next 4 sts; rep from * 17 times, end last rep k 7; 99 sts.  Join B; with both A & B, p 1 row.

Seed st stripe:  With both strands, * k 1, p 1; rep from * across, end k 1.  Rep last row twice more; break off B.  With A, p 1 row.

Note:  All inc rows are worked from right side, one directly before & one directly after each seed st stripe.  When inc after the seed st stripe, k thru the A loop only of st in row below.

3^rd inc row:  K 7, * inc 1 st, k next 5 sts, rep from *, end last rep k 7; 117 sts.  Work 3 rows even in st st as before.

4^th inc row:  K 7, * inc 1 st, k next 6 sts, rep from *, end last rep k 8; 135 sts.  Join B; with both strands, p 1 row; then work 3 rows of seed st stripe; break off B.  With A, p 1 row.

5^th inc row:  K 8, * inc 1 st, k next 7 sts; rep from *, end last rep k 8; 153 sts.  Work 5 rows even. 

6^th inc row:  K 8, * inc 1 st, k next 8 sts; rep from *, end last rep k 9; 171 sts.  Join B; with both strands, p 1 row; then work 3 rows of seed st stripe; break off B.  With A, p 1 row. 

7^th inc row:  K 9, * inc 1 st k next 9 sts; rep from * to end; 189 sts.  Work 7 rows even.

8^th inc row:  K 9, * inc 1 st, k next 10 sts; rep from * to end; 207 sts.  Join b, with both strands p 1 row; then work 3 rows seed st stripe; break off B.  With A, p 1 row.

9^th inc row:  K 10, * inc 1 st, k next 11 sts; rep from *, end last rep k 10; 225 sts.  Work 9 rows even.

10^th inc row:  K 10, * inc 1 st, k next 12 sts; rep from *, end last rep k 11; 243 sts.  Join B, with both strands p 1 row; then work 3 rows seed st stripe; break off B.  With A, p 1 row.

11^th inc row:  K 11, * inc 1 st, k next 13 sts; rep from *, end last rep k 11; 261 sts.  Work 11 rows even.

12^th inc row:  K 11, * inc 1 st, k next 14 sts; rep from *, end last rep k 12; 279 sts.  Join b, with both strands p 1 row; then work 3 rows seed st stripe; break off B.  With A, work 15 rows even.  Bind off.

Roll Collar:  With A, cast on 60 sts.  P 1 row, k 1 row for 17 rows.  Bind off.  From right side, work 1 row sc on short side edges.

Finishes:  Fold under 6 rows at bound-off edge & sew to wrong side for hem.  From right side, work 1 row sc on front edges, from neck edge to beg of hem.  Fold under sc row & sew to wrong side.  Face front edges with grosgrain ribbon.  Sew on collar, with k side to right side of cape, allowing collar to roll over on purl side.
