Vintage Classic Tam & Handbag #292

Quick & easy to create, this classic duo will become a season-spanning favorite!

MATERIALS: 
BAG: 
3 gr  Mary Lamb Baby Soutache, 1 lb Corde, 2 spools Plastic,
OR
3 gr Soutache
#4 Crochet Hook
1 Pin Ornament
HAT:  
3 - 75 yd spools Mary Lamb Corde,
OR
1 spool Ribbonette, 4 oz Strawtex,
OR
2 spools Cordet

BAG: 
Ch 6, join ch 3; 20 dc in ring, join.

2ND ROW:  Work 1 sl st in next st & in each dc of prev row, ch 3 [work outside loop of st throughout entire bag].

3RD ROW:  Work 2 dc in each sl st of prev row.

4TH ROW:  Rep row 3.

5TH ROW:  * Work 1 dc in first st & 2 dc in next st *, rep bet *s around row.

Cont to work same, inc enough to keep bal flat, until it meas 12” across.

FRONT: 
Work same as other side, first 4 dc rows, ch 3 turn.

1ST ROW:  * Work 1 dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st, * rep bet * across row, leave last 20 sts, turn.

2ND ROW:  Work sl st in first st & in each st across row, ch 3, turn.

3RD ROW:  Sk first st, * work 1 dc in next 5 sts & 2 dc in next st, * rep bet * across row, do not work last st.

Rep rows 2 & 3 until bag meas 12” across.

GUSSET: 
Ch 5 sts, work 1 sc in second st from hook, & in each ch st, ch 1, turn.

Work back loop of st throughout entire Gusset.

Inc 1 st both ends every 4th row until 12 sts across. 

Work even 22”, then dec 1 st both ends every row until 4 sts rem, break yarn.

FINISHING: 
Join pieces with sc.

HAT: 
Ch 6, join, ch 3.

1ST RND:  20 Dc in ring, join, ch 3.

2ND RND:  * Work 1 popcorn in next st [popcorn -work 5 dc in same st, drop last loop from needle, pick up first st & draw last loop thru], 1 dc in next st.  * Rep bet * around rnd, join, ch 3.

3RD & 4TH RNDS:  Rep 2nd rnd.

5TH RND:  * Work 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, work 2 sc in next st.  * Rep bet * around rnd, join, ch 1.

6TH RND:  * Work 1 sc in next 5 sts, & 2 sc in next st.  * Rep bet * around rnd, join, ch 1.

Cont to inc same until hat meas 10” diameter.

Then work 6 rows even.

Then dec as you incd, until it fits desired head size.

BAND AROUND BACK OF HEAD: 
Ch 8 sts, work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook & in each ch st across row, ch 1, turn.

Work in sc until it meas desired length for around head.

Join at either side of hat with sc.
