1940s Beaux Catcher Hat

Quick & easy to
create, this classic Hat will become a season-spanning favorite!
MATERIALS:

tubes Tower Brand Gimp

Steel Crochet Hook
1
yd Grosgrain ribbon, 4” wide
Millinery

This
hat is worked in two pieces.
CROWN:
Ch
6.
1ST
ROW: 5 Sc.
2ND
ROW: Sc, inc 1 st at beg & end of
row.
3RD
ROW: Sc.
Cont, alternating 2nd & 3rd rows until you
have 23 sts [19 rows].
Then
work 25 rows with 23 sc.
Now
alternate 2nd & 3rd rows 7 times, dec instead of inc,
until you have 9 sts left. Fasten off.
BAND: Worked from bottom up.
Ch
163.
1ST
ROW: Starting in 3rd st from
hook, make 1 dc in each ch [160 sts], ch 3, turn.
2ND
ROW: Dc.
3RD
ROW: Dc, dec 1 st at beg & end of
row.
Cont,
alternating 2nd & 3rd rows for 9 rows.
Next
row, ch 1, turn, * 10 sl sts, 130 sc, turn *.
Rep bet *s 4 more times; but there will be 10 sc less at beg & end
of each row. Fasten off.
Attach
Band to top of hat with sc.
Sew
wire inside top of hat.
DIAMOND
NET:
1ST
ROW: Make sc in 1st st of
back ch of bottom of band, ch 4, .make sc into 2nd st of loop of dc
in 2nd row, * ch 4 & make sc in 6th st of bottom row,
ch 4, & make sc in 6th st of 2nd row, * rep bet *s to
end of row.
2ND
ROW: * Ch 4 & make sc into loop of
dc 2 rows above, opposite point of lower part of diamond, ch 4 & make sl
st, complete diamond, * rep bet *s to end of row.
Rep
2nd row 4 more times, as shown in photo.
Sl
st around bottom of hat.
Make
bow & attach to hat as shown in photo.
NOTE:
To
make this hat extra special, add a veil of net, lace or dotted-swiss in a
matching color.
Experimenting
with fabrics & color combinations will make this your own original
creation!
