Vintage Chic Lacy Cape #427

Quick & easy to create, this becoming cape in a lacy crochet pattern will become a season-spanning wardrobe favorite…perfect for town or country!

SIZE: 

10 - 14, 16 - 20. 

Larger size can be made by increasing size of crochet hook.

MATERIALS:

Knitting Worsted 5 [6] - 4 oz skeins,

#H/8 Crochet Hook

7 - ½” Buttons

GAUGE: 

WORKING IN DOUBLE CROCHET [DC]:  7 dc = 2”;   2 rows = 1”

CAPE:  SIZE 10 - 14:

1^ST ROW:  Ch 47 [meas 12” without stretching], 2 dc in 4^th st from hook, * 1 dc in each of next 2 sts of ch, 2 dc in next st of ch; rep from * across row, end with 1 dc in end st.  60 Dc, counting ch 3 as 1 dc.

2^ND ROW:  Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in 1^st dc, * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc; rep from * across row, end with 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in top st of turning ch 3.

RIGHT FRONT BAND: 

Hold right side of dc rows of patt toward you, join yarn with sc over end sc of last row at lower edge, * 3 sc over end dc of next row, 1 sc in end sc of next row; rep from * along front edge, end with 3 sc over each end st of next 3 rows.

4^TH ROW:  [DEC]:  Ch 1, turn, sk 1^st sc, work 1 sc in each sc to within last 2 sc, sk next sc, 1 sc in last sc.  15 Sc in last row.  Rep last 3 rows [from 2^nd to end of 4^th row] twice.  There are 11 sc in last rep.

FINISHING: 

Leave 46 rows free at each end of scarf & have sl st rnd on right side of Cape, pin scarf across front bands & neck edge. 

Use darning needle & matching color yarn, overcast scarf to neck edge.

Sew buttons in position on Left Front Band matching buttonholes.

FRINGE: 

Wind yarn 5 times around 6” piece of cardboard, cut at one end thus making 12” strands. 

Hold these 5 strands tog 7 fold in half to form loop; insert hook in any ch loop on last rnd & draw loop of strands thru, draw loose ends thru this loop & pull tightly to form knot. 

Cut & tie group of 5 -12” strands to each ch loop on last rnd in same manner.  Trim all fringe evenly.

CAPE:  SIZE 16 - 20: 

1^ST ROW:  Ch 55 [meas 14” without stretching], 1 dc in 4^th st from hook, * 2 dc in next st of ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts of ch; rep from * across row, end with 2 dc in next st of ch, 1 dc in each of 2 end sts.  There are 70 dc in row, counting ch 3 at beg of row as 1 dc.

2^ND ROW:  Ch 3, turn, sk 1^st dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, * 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc; rep from * across row, end with 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next ch st. 

3^RD ROW:  Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in 1^st dc, * 1 dc in each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * across row, end with 1 dc in top st of turning ch.  [105 dc in row].

Now follow directions for Size 10-14 from 4^th row to end.
