Vintage 3-Piece Sweater

Your little love is
delicious in this set with its sweater, the rounded yoke with corded closure,
matching cap & bootees…charming for that afternoon stroll with mother…precisely
right to catch those beneficial sun beams!
SIZE:

are given for 6-11 Months Size.
Changes
for 12-18 Months are in parentheses.

MATERIALS:
3-ply
Baby Weight Yarn 5 skeins [1 oz] of white

Steel Crochet Hook

Small Buttons.
GAUGE:
13
dc = 2”;
3
patterns (12 rows) = 2 ½”
Worked lengthwise, in easy stitches,
from side front to side front, the only seams to be sewn are those on the
sleeves.
SACQUE:
Sacque is worked
lengthwise in one piece, incl yoke, from right front edge to left front edge.
When completed only
sleeve seams must be sewn.
RIGHT
FRONT:
Start
at front edge, ch 65 (75), having 13 ch to 2”.
NEXT
ROW: [right side]: Sc in 2nd ch from hk & in next 8 (10) ch,
h dc in next 9 (11) ch—these 18 (22) sts are for yoke; dc in rem 46 (52)
ch. Ch 1, turn.
Now work 2 short rows & 2 long rows as follows:
1ST
ROW: [short row]: Sc in first dc, (ch 2 loosely, sk next 2 dc,
sc in next dc) 15 (17) times. Ch 1,
turn.
Do not work over yoke sts.
2ND
ROW: [short row]: Sc in first sc, (ch 2, sc in next sc) 15 (17)
times. Ch 1, turn.
3RD
ROW: [long row]: Sc in first sc, (ch 2, sc in next sc) 15 (17)
times; sc in back lp of each of 18 (22) yoke sts. Ch 1, turn.
4TH
ROW: [long row]: Sc in back lp of first 9 (11) sc, hdc in back
lp of next 9 (11) sc; working thru both lps of rem sts, dc in next sc, (dc in
next 2 ch, dc in next sc) 15 (17) times.
Ch 1, turn.
Rep last 4 rows for patt.
Work
4 (5) more patts, then rep 1st, 2nd & 3rd rows once more. There are 24 (28) rows in all.
RIGHT
SLEEVE:
NEXT
ROW: Work 4th patt row until 18 (22)
yoke sts & following 7 dc are completed, drop working strand, attach 1-yard
length of yarn to last sc used & ch 33 (39) for sleeve; pick up dropped
yarn & dc in each ch across. Ch 1,
turn.
Starting
with 1st patt row, cont in patt having 13 (15) ch-2 sps on sleeve & 18 (22)
sts on yoke, until 32 (36) rows in all have been completed on sleeve, end with
3rd patt row.
BACK:
NEXT
ROW: Work 4th patt row until 18 (22)
yoke sts & following 7 dc are completed, dc in each of next 2 ch of 1st
free ch-2 sp of last row of Front, dc in each rem st of last row of Front.
Cont
in patt until 49 (57) rows in all have been completed on Back, end with 4th
patt row.
Mark
7th dc following 18 (22) yoke sts on last row.
Break off & fasten.
LEFT
SLEEVE:
Ch

ROW: Sc in 2nd ch from hk, (ch 2, sk
next 2 ch, sc in next ch) 10 (12) times; ch 2, sk next 2 ch, draw up lp in last
ch, with wrong side facing, draw up lp in marked dc of last row of Back, yo
& draw thru all 3 lps on hk; working across last row of Back, (ch 2, sk
next 2 dc, sc in next dc) twice. Ch 1,
turn.
Cont
in patt as before until there are 32 (36) rows in all on Sleeve, end with 4th
patt row. Break off & fasten.
Mark
7th dc following 18 (22) yoke sts on last row.
LEFT
FRONT:
1ST
ROW: With wrong side facing, attach yarn
to 1st dc at lower edge of last row of Back, sc in same place, working across
last row of Back (ch 2, sk next 2 sts, sc in next st) 12 (14) times; ch 2, sk
next 2 sts, draw up lp in marked dc of Back & lp in marked dc of Sleeve
& complete sc, cont over last row of Sleeve, (ch 2, sk next 2 sts, sc in
next st) twice. Ch 1, turn.
Cont
in patt until there are 24 (28) rows in all on Left Front, end with 4th patt
row. Break off & fasten.
With
right side facing, attach yarn to Left Front neck edge & sc in each st
across left front edge, be careful to keep work flat & make 3 sc in each
corner st, sc across lower edge, sc in each st across right front edge, sc
across neck edge. Join with si st to
first sc. Break off & fasten.
With
right side facing, sc closely across lower edge of each Sleeve.
Sew
sleeve seams.
With
double yarn make ch one yard long.
Draw
ch bet sts ½” down from neck edge, (tack each side securely to avoid choking
hazard) & tie into bow.
POMPON: [Make 2]:
Cut
2 cardboard circles each ¾” diameter.
Cut
hole ½” diameter in center of each circle.
Cut
4 strands of yarn each 1 1/3 yds long.
Place
cardboard circles tog & wind 4 strands around double circles, drawing yarn
thru center opening & over edge until center hole is filled.
Cut
yarn around outer edge bet circles.
Double
1/2 yd length of yarn.
Sl
bet 2 cardboard circles & tie securely around strands of Pompon.
Remove
cardboard & trim evenly.
Sew Pompon to each end of chain.
CAP:
Starting
at center, ch 2.
1ST
RND: Make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hk. Join with sl st to first sc. Turn.
2ND
RND: 2 Sc in back lp of each sc
around—12 sc. Join. Turn.
3RD
RND: * 2 Sc in back lp of next sc—1 sc
inc; sc in back lp of next sc. Rep from
* around—18 sc. Join. Turn.
4TH
RND: Inc 6 sc evenly spaced, sc in back
lp of each sc around. Join. Turn.
Rep
4th rnd until piece meas 4 ½“(5“) diameter.
At end of last rnd, turn.
Now cont in rows as follows:
1ST
ROW: Working thru both lps of each st
thru out, sl st in each of the first 7 sc, sc in next sc, * ch 2, sk next 2 sc,
sc in next sc. Rep from * across to
within last 7 sc. Ch 1, turn. Do not work in last 7 sc.
2ND
ROW: Sc in 1st sc, * ch 2, sc in next
sc. Rep from * across. Ch 1, turn.
3RD
ROW: Rep 2nd row. Ch 3, turn.
4TH
ROW: Sk 1st sc, * dc in next 2 ch, dc in
next sc. Rep from * across. Ch 1, turn.
5TH
ROW: Sc in 1st dc, * ch 2, sk next 2
sts, sc in next st. Rep from * across,
end with sc in top of turning ch. Ch 1,
turn.
Rep
last 4 rows (2nd thru 5th row) for patt.
Work
in patt until length from 1st row is about 4 ¾” (5 ½“), end with 4th patt row.
Next 7 rows: Sc in
back lp of each st across. Ch 1, turn.
At
end of last row omit turning ch. Break
off & fasten.
Sc
closely around neck edge.
With
double strand of yarn make ch 36” long.
Draw
ch bet sts of neck edge. Tie into bow.
Make
2 Pompons as for Sacque & sew Pompon to each end of chain.
BOOTEES:
SOLE:
Start at center, ch 20 to meas 2 ¾”.
1ST RND: 3 Dc in 4th ch from hk, dc in next 2 ch, hdc
in next 4 ch, dc in next 3 ch, tr in next 6 ch, 9 tr in last ch; work along
opposite side of starting ch, tr in next 6 ch, dc in next 3 ch, hdc in next 4
ch, dc in next 2 ch, 3 dc in same place where first 3 dc were made. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. Turn.
2ND RND: Sc in back lp of each st around, inc as
necessary to keep work flat: to inc one sc—make 2 sc in one st. Join to 1st sc. Turn.
Rep 2nd rnd 3 times more. Break off & fasten.
UPPER-INSTEP:
Starting
at center, ch 12.
1ST
ROW: Dc in 4th ch from hk & in next
7 ch, 5 dc in last ch; work along opposite side of starting ch, dc in each of
next 9 ch—23 dc, count ch-3 as one dc.
Ch 1, turn.
2ND
ROW: Sc in 1st dc, (ch 2, sk next 2 dc,
sc in next dc) 3 times; (ch 2, sc in next dc) 4 times; (ch 2, sk next 2 dc, sc
in next dc) 3 times. Ch 1, turn.
3RD
ROW: Sc in 1st sc, (ch 2, sc in next sc)
5 times; ch 2, sc in same sc where last sc was made, (ch 2, sc in next sc) 5
times. Ch 1, turn.
4TH
ROW: Sc in 1st sc, * ch 2, sc in next
sc. Rep from * across, ch 30 & join
with sl st to 1st sc of same row. Turn.
SIDE
PIECE:
1ST
RND: Sc in each of 30 ch, sc in each sc
& in each ch around. Join. Turn.
Next 4 rnds: Sc in
back lp of each sc around. Join. Turn.
At
end of last rnd, break off & fasten.
ANKIE
STRAP:
Ch
20.
With
wrong side of Upper facing, sc in 7 sts at center back of side, ch 21.
1ST
ROW: Sc in 2nd ch from hk, sc in each ch
& in each sc across—47 sc. Ch 1,
turn.
2ND
ROW: Sc in back lp of each sc across,
making ch-2 sp for buttonhole after 1st sc for left bootee & before last sc
for right bootee: to make ch-2 sp—ch 2, sk 2 sc, sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn.
3RD
ROW: Sc in back lp of each sc across,
make 2 sc in ch-2 sp. Break off &
fasten.
Pin
Sole in place.
Working
thru back lp of Upper & front lp of Sole, sc around. Join, break off & fasten.
Sew
button on each Ankle Strap to correspond with buttonhole.
Make
2 Pompons as before & sew one to center of each Instep.
