Cable Short Cape #324
A clever needle worker
will quickly work up this stole into a classic, season-spanning wardrobe
favorite to keep or present as a welcome gift!

oz American Thread “Dawn” Knitting Worsted

Circular Knitting Needle #10 ½

Pair Knitting Needles #10 ½

Gauge:
4
Stockinette sts = 1”
Cape:
With
#10 ½ circular needle cast on 282 sts.
Do not join, work back & forth.
1st
row: P 2, * k 6, p 10, rep from * 16
times, end with k 6, p 2.
2nd
row: K 2, * p 6, k 10, rep from * 16
times end with p 6, k 2.
3rd
& 4th rows: Rep 1st
& 2nd rows.
5th
row: P 2, * place next 3 sts on double
pointed needle & hold in back of work, k next 3 sts, then k 3 sts from
double pointed needle [cable twist], p 10, rep from * across row end with a
cable twist, p2.
6th
row: Rep 2nd row.
These
6 rows form the pattern.
Work
in pattern until the 3rd cable twist row is completed.
Next
row: 1st dec row: K 2, * p 6, k 4, k 2 tog, k 4, rep from *
across row end with p 6,
k 2.
k 2.
Work
5 rows even in pattern having 9 sts in each p section.
Next
row: 2nd dec row: K 2, * p 6, k 3, k 2 tog, k 4, rep from *
across row end with p 6,
k 2.
k 2.
Work
in pattern dec 1 st in each p section every 6th row until 1 st
remains in each p section.
Work
6 more rows in pattern end with 6th row of pattern.
Next
row: P 2, * k 2 tog, k 2, k 2 tog, p 1,
rep from * across row end with p 2.
Next
row: K 2, * p 4, k 1, rep from * across
row end with k 2. Bind off tightly in
pattern.
With
right side of work toward you attach yarn at lower front edge, work a row of
sc, working 44 sc up right Front, work a row of sc around neck edge skipping
every other st, 44 sc down left Front.
Collar:
Starting
at outside edge with straight needles cast on 87 sts.
1st
row: P 2, * k 6, p 5, rep from * across
row end with k 6, p 2.
Work
even in pattern same as cape having 5 sts in each p section until work measures
3 ½”. Bind off in pattern.
With
right side of work toward you, attach yarn at neck edge 7 work a row of sc all
around collar having same amount of sc at neck edge as on cape neck working 3
sc in each corner at outside edge.
Block
cape & collar & sew collar in position.
Buttonloop:
Attach
yarn in 3rd sc of cape at right neck edge, ch 5, sk 2 sc, sl st
between joining of collar, cut yarn.
Sew
button at left neck edge.
