Vintage 1940s Rosette Calot Hat #109 
SIZE: 
Medium

MATERIALS:   
Bucilla Strawkraft or Fleisher’s Straw-Twist [all rayon] 3 skeins.
Bucilla or Fleisher’s Featherlike Steel Crochet Hook, #1.

GAUGE: 
11 sts = 2”;    
6 rnds = 1”

CROWN: 
Ch 20, 1 sc in 2nd st from hook & in each st on ch [10sts], 3 more sc in same st with last st, 18 sc on other side of ch, 1 sc in same st with last st, 2 sc in next st [first sc of rnd, 42 sts].  Do not turn; mark this point as end of rnd.

2nd Rnd:  *1 sc in each of next 17 sts, 2 sc in each of next 4 sts; rep from * once [50 sts].

3rd Rnd:  * 1 sc in each of 17 sts, 2 sc in each of 8 sts; rep from * once [66 sts].

4th Rnd:  Work even.

5th Rnd:  § 1 sc in each of 17 sts, * 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of 2 sts; rep from * 4 times, 2 sc in next st, rep from § once [78 sts].

6th & 7th Rnds:  Work 2 rnds even.

8th Rnd:  1 sc in each of 20 sts, § * 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of 2 sts; rep from * 4 times, 2 sc in next st §, 1 sc in each of 23 sts; rep bet §’s once, 1 sc in each of last 3 sts [90 sts].  Mark this point as end of rnd.

9th & 10th Rnds:  Work 2 rnds even.

11th Rnd:  § Sk 1 st [dec], 1 sc in each of 15 sts, sk 1 st, 1 sc in each of 6 sts, * 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of 2 sts; rep from * 4 times, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of 6 sts; rep from § once [98 sts].

12th & 13th Rnds:  Work 2 rnds even.

14th Rnd:  § Sk 1 st, 1 sc in each of 13 sts, sk 1 st, 1 sc in each of 9 sts; * 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of 2 sts; rep from * 4 times, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of 9 sts; rep from § once [106 sts]. 

Work even until 3 ½” from foundation ch, sl st in next 3 sts.  Fasten off.

ROSETTE: 
Ch 24, join with a sl st into ring.

1st Rnd:  * Ch 5, 1 sc in next st; rep from * 23 times [24 loops].  Do not turn.

2nd Rnd:  Sl st to center of first loop, 1 sc in center st of same loop, * 4 dc in next loop, ch 3, 4 dc in same loop, 1 sc in center st of next loop; rep from * around, end last rep 1 sl st in first sc [12 points].

3rd Rnd:  Sl st in first dc of first point, ch 1, * 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in loop, ch 4, 1 dc in same loop, ch 1, 1 dc in each of 3 dc, draw up a loop in next dc, sk sc, draw up a loop in first dc of next point, over, thru 3 loops [a dec sc]; rep from *, end with a dec sc in last dc of last point & sl st of first point.

4th Rnd:  Ch 2, sk next dc, * 1 dc in each of 2 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in next sp, ch 1, 4 dc in loop, ch 3, 4 dc in same loop, ch 1, 1 dc in next sp, ch 1, 1 dc in each of 2 dc, over, draw up a loop in next dc, over, thru 2 loops, sk next st, over, draw up a loop in first dc of next point, over, thru 2 loops, over, thru all 3 loops [a dec dc]; rep from * around, end last rep 1 dc in last dc of last point; join in top of ch 2.  Fasten off.

MAKE 3 ROSETTES. 
Steam lightly.  Fold rosette over double & sew edges of foundation ch tog. 

Sew foundation ch to center of front edge of crown [shaped part]. 

Sew a rosette to edge of crown at each side of center rosette.

NOTE: 
To make this hat extra special, add a veil of net, lace or dotted-swiss in a matching color.
