1970s Vibrant Ribbon Party Dress #1292

This vibrant pink ribbon dress with a lower waist, flippy skirt has a light-hearted look perfect for a party. Crocheted shells are worked in rows for bodice, & larger shells are worked in panels for skirt. The drawstring at the low waist, gives the top a blouson effect.

SIZE:
Small [8-10], Medium [12-14], & Large [16-18].

Directions are for size Small with changes for Medium & Large in brackets.

MATERIALS:
Bernat Mignonette Knitting Ribbon, 100 yd Spools: 10 [11-12]
1 Aluminum Crochet Hook Size I [UK #7]
1 Steel Crochet Hook #1
1 Button ½”
Matching Sewing Thread
1 yd Lining Material for Skirt

MEASUREMENT:
Body Bust = 31 ½” – 32 ½” [34”-36”;38”-40”]
Finished Bust = 35” [40”-45”]

GAUGE/TENSION:
BLOUSE:
3 Shells = 4”
1 Row = 1”

PATTERN:
Worked on multiple of 8 CH.

1ST ROW: 1 DC [NOTE: pull up 1st lp of each DC 1” high] in 3rd CH from hk & in each of next 2 CH, * sk 2 CH, work 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC in next CH [open shell], sk 2 CH, work DC in each of next 3 CH, rep from * across, end sk 2 CH, DC in last CH. CH 3, turn.

2ND ROW: 2 DC, CH 1, 2 DC [open shell] in center DC of 3-DC group, * work 3 DC [shell] in CH-1 sp of next open shell, work open shell in center DC of next 3-DC grp, rep from * across, end DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

3RD ROW: Work shell of 3 DC in CH-1 sp of open shell, * work open shell in center DC of next shell, work shell in CH-1 sp of next open shell, rep from * across, end DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

Rep 2nd & 3rd rows for patt.

BLOUSE:
BACK:
Beg at lower edge, CH 56 [64-72] loosely.

Work in patt on 13 [15-17] shells [shells & open shells] until piece meas approx 12”, end patt 2nd row. CH 1, turn.

Piece will meas 17 ½” [20”-22 ½”] wide.

SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Sl st loosely across 1 [1-2] shells, CH 3, work in patt as establ to last 1 [1-2] shells, end DC in 1st DC of next shell = 11 [13-13] shells. CH 3, turn.

DIVIDE FOR BACK OPENING:
1ST HALF:
NEXT ROW: 2 DC in 1st shell, work in patt as establ across next 4 [5-5] shells, work DC in center of next shell. CH 3, turn.

NEXT ROW: Work in patt across, end DC in last DC, DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

Work even on 4 [5-5] shells for 2 rows, end at arm side.

SHAPE NECK:
Work across 2 [3-3] shells, DC in 1st DC of next shell. CH 3, turn.

Work 1 row even on 2 [3-3] shells. Fasten off.

2ND HALF:
Join yarn in center of center shell on last long row, CH 3, work in patt across 4 [5-5] shells, end 2 DC in center of next shell, DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

NEXT ROW: Sk 2 DC, DC in next DC, work in patt across 4 [5-5] shells. CH 3, turn.

NEXT ROW: Work in patt across 4 [5-5] shells, end DC in top of turning CH.

Work even on 4 [5-5] shells for 1 row, end center edge. CH 1, turn.

SHAPE NECK:
Sl st loosely across 2 shells, CH 3, work in patt across = 2 [3-3] shells.

Work 1 row even on 2 [3-3] shells. Fasten off.

FRONT:
Work as for back to underarm, end patt 2nd row. CH 1, turn.

SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Sl st loosely across 1 [1-2] shells, CH 3, work in patt to last 1 [1-2] shells, end DC in 1st DC of next shell. CH 3, turn.

NEXT ROW: 2 DC in center of next shell, work in patt as establ across next 9 [11-11] shells, end DC in center of next shell, DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

Work even in patt on 9 [11-11] shells for 2 [3-3] rows. CH 3, turn.

SHAPE NECK:
Work across 2 [3-3] shells, end DC in 1st DC of next shell. CH 3, turn.

Work even in patt on 2 [3-3] shells for 1 row. Fasten off.

Sk center 5 shells on last long row; join yarn in last DC of last sk shell. CH 3, work across last 2 [3-3] shells, end DC in top of turning CH. CH 3, turn.

Work even in patt on 2 [3-3] shells for 1 row. Fasten off.

With ribbon, from WS, sl st shoulder & side seams tog.

SKIRT:
Work across starting CH of blouse, join yarn in left side seam.

From RS, work 101 [120-136] SC evenly sp around lower edge of blouse. Join with sl st in 1st SC. DO NOT turn.

BEADING:
CH 4, sk next SC, DC in next SC, * CH 1, sk next SC, DC in next SC, rep from * around. Join with sl st in 3rd CH of starting CH 4.

PATTERN:
1ST RND: CH 3, * sk 3 sts, work 3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC in next st, sk 3 sts, DC in next st, rep from * around, end last rep sl st in top of starting CH = 13 [15-17] shells.

2ND RND: CH 3, * work shell of 4 DC, CH 1, 4 DC in CH-1 sp of next shell, post-DC around DC bet shells. To make post-DC: YO hk, insert hk from right to left under bar of DC, pull up lp, [YO & thru 2 lps] twice. Rep from * around, end last rep sl st in top of starting CH.

3RD – 5TH RNDS: NOTE: Pull up 1st lp of each DC 1 ¼” high. CH 4, * work shell of 5 DC, CH 2, 5 DC in CH-sp of next shell, CH 1, post-DC around DC bet shells, CH 1, rep from * around, end sl st in 3rd CH of starting CH.

6TH – 8TH RNDS: CH 5, * work shell of 6 TRC, CH 2, 6 TRC in CH-2 sp of next shell, CH 1, post-TRC around st bet shells, CH 1, rep from * around, end sl st in 4th CH of starting CH.

9TH – 11TH RNDS: CH 5, * work shell of 7 TRC, CH 3, 7 TRC in CH-sp of next shell, CH 1, post-TRC around TRC bet shells, CH 1, rep from * around, end last rep CH 1, sl st in 4th CH of starting CH.

12TH RND: CH 5, * work shell of 8 TRC, CH 1, 8 TRC in CH-3 sp of next shell, CH 1, post-TRC around TRC bet shells, CH 1, rep from * around, end last rep CH 1, sl st in 4th CH of starting CH. Fasten off.

If longer skirt is desired, rep 12th row.

FINISHING:
From RS, work 1 row SC around neck edge & back opening [
KEEP WORK FLAT], work CH-3 lp at top of LS of back opening for button loop. Fasten off.

From RS, work 1 row SC around each armhole edge, ease in to needed fit.

With sewing thread tack ribbon ends to WS.

Cut lining to skirt meas.

Sew side seams & sew lining to upper edge of skirt.

Hem skirt lining 1” shorter than skirt.

BELT:
Make CH approx 48” long.

Sc in 2nd CH from hk & in each CH across. Fasten off.

Thread belt thru beading at waistline.

BUTTON:
With steel hk #1, CH 2, 6 SC in 2nd CH from hk. DO NOT join rnds.

2ND RND: 2 SC in each SC around = 12 SC.

3RD RND: SC in each SC around.

4TH RND: * Pull up lp in each of next 2 sts, YO & thru 3 lps on hk, [dec made]l, rep from * around.

Insert button & cont to dec as nec to cover back of button. Fasten off.

Sew button to RS of back opening.
