Vintage 1970s Poodle Shrug #1263
SIZE:
Directions are for Medium [14-16] with changes for Large [18-20] in brackets.

MATERIALS:
Morell Astrahan [Poodle Cloth, 50 gm Skeins: 10 [11]
1 Hero 14” Knitting Needle #10 ½
1 Hero Plastic Crochet Hook #G
1 Hero Standard Steel Crochet Hook #3
1 Hero Steel Blunt Darner
¾ yd Elastic ¼”

NOTE:
Size increases may also be made by increasing hook sizes and/or yarn weight.

GAUGE/TENSION:
3 Sts = 1”
4 Rows = 1”

PATTERN STITCH:
Reverse Stockinette St [st st]: P1 row, K1 row. Rep these 2 rows.

NOTE: Purl side is right side [RS] of work.

LEFT FRONT:
Start at
UNDERARM, cast on 3 sts loosely.

Work in reverse st st [start with P row], & cast on 3 sts at beg of every K row on [FRONT EDGE], until there are 27 [30] sts.

Work even until piece meas 8” [9”] at side edge [beg of P row], end with K row.

SHAPE SLEEVES:
Cast on 24 [26] sts at beg of next row.

Work even on 51 [56] sts until SLEEVE EDGE meas 8”[9”] from cast on edge, end with K row.

NEXT ROW: P to within 10 sts of end of row [NECK EDGE], sl rem 10 sts onto holder to be worked later for COLLAR, then sl 41 [46] sts of FRONT to spare needle.

RIGHT FRONT:
Work in same way as
LEFT FRONT, reverse shaping [cast on sts for CENTER FRONT at beg of P rows & SLEEVE shaping at beg of K rows], end with K row at NECK edge, after COLLAR sts have been taken off; cast on 10 [10] sts for back of NECK, then join 2 fronts by working across 41 [46] sts of LEFT FRONT.

BACK:
Work even on 92 [102] sts until
BACK meas same as FRONT from back of NECK to SLEEVE edge.

SHAPE SLEEVES:
Bind off 24 [26] sts at beg of next 2 rows [once each side].

Work even on rem 44 [50] sts until same length as FRONT at side edge. Bind off loosely.

COLLAR:
Sl 10 collar sts of each front to 10 ½” needles.

Use 2 balls of yarn, work both pieces at same time for 4” [4 ½”]. Bind off loosely.
FINISHING:
NOTE: When joining pieces, unravel length of yarn, & weave edges tog, using darner.

Join bound-off edges of COLLAR tog, then sides to back of NECK, ease in to fit.

Join UNDERARM & SLEEVE seams on wrong side.

With Crochet Hook #G & RS facing, work 2 rows of SC around SLEEVES, FRONT edges, 

COLLAR & BOTTOM of jacket.
With Crochet Hook #3, make casing for elastic on wrong side of SLEEVES.

Insert elastic to desired meas.
