Vintage 1970s Picot Lace Dress #1290

This long-sleeved dress has a lovely, luxurious lace pattern of picot-crochet. The unfitted body of dress is lined, contrasting with see-through effect of close-fitting sleeves. Picot loops edge the deep U neckline, wrists, & hem. Change the length to mid-calf or floor-length, & you have a gorgeous bridal gown for your own special wedding day.

SIZE:
10, 12, 14 &16.

Directions are for size 10 with changes for 12, 14 & 16 in brackets.


MATERIALS:
Diamond Scheepjes Ravelli, 50 gm Balls: 11 [12-13-14]
1 Steel Crochet Hook #1 [UK #0]
1 ½ yds Silk Organdy for Lining
Matching Sewing Thread


MEASUREMENTS:
Body Bust = 32 ½” [34”-36”-38”]
Finished Bust = 34” [36”-39”-41”]


GAUGE/TENSION:
2 Patts [28 Sts] = 3 ¼”
1 Patt [12 Rows] = 3”

Beg at lower edge, CH 154 [168-182-196].


Work in patt until piece meas approx 28”, or needed length to underarm [This is where you can lengthen for a floor length gown], end patt 7th row.

Piece should meas 16 ½” [18”-19 ½”-21”] wide. Fasten off. Turn work.

SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Sk 3 SC, P, 2 SC, join yarn in next SC, CH 5. Work patt 14th row across.


Beg with patt 3rd row, work in patt as establ until armhole meas approx 5” above start of armhole, end patt 9th row. CH 11, turn.

SHAPE NECK: SHOULDER:
NEXT ROW: Work patt 10th row, from 1st * to 2nd * 0 [2-3-3] times, end SC in center SC bet next 2 P on last row, CH 9, SC in next sp, turn, work 3 SC, P, 3 SC in last sp. DO NOT TURN.


NEXT ROW: Work from 1st * on 11th row across. CH 5, turn.

Work in patt as establ until armhole meas 7” [7”-7 ½”-7 ½”] from start. Fasten off.

Join yarn with DC in CH-5 sp at arm side of last long riw, CH 5. Follow patt 10th row, work from 1st * to 2nd * 2 [2-3-3] times, end Sc in center SC bet next 2 P on last row, CH 9, SC in next sp, turn, work 3 SC, P, 3 SC in last sp. DO NOT TURN.

FRONT:
Beg at lower edge, CH 168 [168-182-196].


Work same as back until piece meas same as back to underarm, end patt 7th row.

Piece should meas 18” [18”-19 ½”-21”] wide. Fasten off. Turn work.

SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Sk 3 SC, P, 2 SC, join yarn in next SC, CH 5. Work patt 14th row across.


Beg with patt 3rd row, work in patt as establ until armhole meas approx 2” above underarm, end patt 9th row. CH 11, turn.

SHAPE NECK:

SLEEVES:

Work patt 1st – 10th rows. CH 1, turn.

Work patt 3rd – 7th rows. Fasten off. Rep from ** 3 times. Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Using back & front for patt, cut lining, allow ½” on all edges for seams & 2” on lower edge for hem.


DO NOT line sleeves.

Weave shoulders tog & sew in sleeves.

Match rows, then sew side & sleeve seams.

LOWER EDGING:
From RS, beg at lower side seam, * 3 SC, P, rep from * around lower edge & KEEP WORK FLAT.


Work same edging around each sleeve.

NECK EDGE:
From RS, beg at shoulder seam, CH 3, SC around neck edge & KEEP WORK FLAT. Join with sl st in 1st SC.


NEXT RND: * 3 SC in next CH-3 sp, P, rep from * around. Join with sl st in 1st SC. Fasten off.

Assemble lining & sew to neck & armhole edges.

Hem lower edge of lining 1” shorter than dress.

Steam press seams open flat on WS & steam-press hem.
