1970s Children’s Mod Tunic Mini Dress #1360


DRESS in singlet style buttons at front opening. Extensions at tops of long sleeves make tab-like
shoulder trims.

MATERIALS:
(6, 7) balls Villawool Superknit 5-ply Crepe
1 Pair each #10 & #11 Aero Knitting Needles
3 Buttons

MEASUREMENTS:
Chest = 20” (22”, 24”)
Length = 15” (17”, 18”) 
Sleeves = 7” (8”, 9”)

TENSION:
7 Sts = 1”

BACK: 
Use #10 needles, cast on 98 (106, 114) sts., work 2 rows in st-st.

Change to #11 needles & work 12 rows. 

Tie marker at centre of last row.

These 14 rows form hem, & all meas will be taken from marker. 

Change to #10 needles & dec 1 st each end of 17th row from marker, then every foll 10th
(10th, 12th) rows until 80 (86, 94) sts rem.

* Cont until work meas 11” (12”, 14”), or length needed, end on p row. 

SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Cast off 4 sts (ALL SIZES) at beg of next 2 rows. 

Dec 1 st each end of next, then every 2nd row until 60 (64, 68) sts rem. 

Cont, until armholes meas 3 ¾” (4”, 4 ¼”) on straight, end on p row. 

SHAPE SHOULDERS:
Cast off at beg of next & every row 4 (4, 5) sts twice, 4 (5, 5) sts twice, 5 (5, 5) sts

4 times, 24 (26, 28) sts once. 

FRONT:
Work as back to *, end on p row. 

DIVIDE FOR FRONT OPENING:
NEXT ROW: K 36 (39, 43) sts, & cast on 8 sts for underlap, turn: 44 (47, 51) sts. Leave rem. 44 (47, 51) sts on holder. 
NEXT ROW: K 2, p to end.
NEXT ROW: K.
Rep last 2 rows until same as back to armholes, ending on p row. 
SHAPE ARMHOLES:
Cast off 4 sts (
ALL SIZES) at beg of next row, then dec 1 st at armhole edge on every 2nd  row 6 (7, 9) times.
Cont, on rem 34 (36, 38) sts until 2 ¾” (3”, 3 ¼”) on straight, end at front edge. 
SHAPE NECK:
Cast off at beg of next & each alt row 7 sts (
ALL SIZES) once, 2 (3, 4) sts once, 2 sts twice, 1 st 3 times, AT SAME TIME when armhole meas same as back, end at armhole edge. 
SHAPE SHOULDER:
Cast off at beg of next & each alt row 4 (4, 5) sts once, 4 (5, 5) sts once, 5 (5, 5) sts twice. 
MARK OFF 3 BUTTONHOLE POSITIONS:
1st  ½” from opening, 3rd ¼” from neck edge, & 2nd evenly sp bet. 
BUTTONHOLE:
With RS facing, k 3, cast off 2 sts, k to end.
On next row, cast on 2 sts over cast-off 2 sts. Ret to rem sts, join yarn at opening, k to end. 
NEXT ROW: P to last 2 sts, k 2. 
Finish to corres with other side with 3 buttonholes opp markers. 
SLEEVES:
With #11 needles, cast on 37 (39, 41) sts, work in garter st for 22 rows. 
Change to #Í0 needles, cont in garter st & inc 1 st each end of every 8th row foll until 55 (59, 63) sts.
Cont until sleeves meas 7 ½” (8 ½”, 9 ½”) or length needed.
Cast off 4 sts (ALL SIZES) at beg of next 2 rows.

Dec 1 st each end of next & every 2nd row 9 (11, 13) times, then every 4th row until 15 sts rem.
Cont on rem 15 sts until tab fits shoulder to neck edge.
Cast off on next row. 
Press work on WS.
Pin sleeves into armholes & extension across shoulders to neck edge.
With small back st, sew these edges tog, sew up side & sleeve seams.
Press seams open. 
NECK BORDER:
With RS facing & #11 needles, neatly pick up & k 19 (20, 21) sts each side of front neck, 12 sts on each sleeve extension, 24 (26, 28) sts on back neck: 86 (90, 94) sts.
Work 3 rows in garter st & cast off on next row. 
Fold up hem, sl st down.
Sl st under lap in position.
Sew on buttons.
