1970 Sunshine Two-Piece Suit #1356


    Sunshine suit, a smart, double-breast jacket with raglan sleeves, knit in an easy bobble stitch & leggings that give a person lots of room for adventure.

    MATERIALS:
lyalls Patons Bluebell, or Patons Swifta'Knit Bri-Nylon: Coat 5 Balls; Leggings, 4 Balls
1 Pair #9 and #11 Beehive Knitting Needles
12 Buttons
½ yd Elastic ¼”
MEASUREMENTS:
Coat:
Chest = 19”-20”
Length = 9 ½”
Sleeve = 5 ½”
Leggings:
Front seam = 7 ½”
Leg seam = 7” 
   TENSION:
    13 ½ sts = 2” over st st

SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS:
y fwd = yarn forward
yrn = yarn round needle
yon = yarn over needle
tbl = thru back of loops
mb = make bobble (k 1, p 1, k 1, p 1) into next st, turn, k 4, turn, p 4, sl 2nd, 3rd, & 4th sts over 1st st
COAT:
BACK:
Use #11 needles, cast on 65 sts & k 7 rows.
Change to #9 needles & patt: 
1ST ROW: K.
2ND ROW: P. 
3RD ROW: * K 2, mb, k 3, rep. from * to last 5 sts, k 2, mb, k 2. 
4TH ROW: P. 
5TH & 6TH ROWS: Rep 1st & 2nd rows. 
7TH ROW: K 1,* y fwd, k 2 tog, rep. from * to end. 
8TH ROW: P 2, * yrn, p 2 tog, rep. from * to last st, p 1. 
9TH & 10TH ROWS: Rep 1st & 2nd rows. 
Rows 1st to 10th incl, form patt. 
Cont in patt, until work meas 5” from beg, & end with 8th row. 
Keep patt correct, shape raglans by casting off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each end of next & alt rows until 21 sts rem.
Work 1 row. Cast off. 
RIGHT FRONT:
Use #11 needles, cast on 29 sts & k 7 rows. 
Change to #9 needles & work patt, as back until 5½” from beg, end with 9th row. 
Keep patt, correct, shape raglan by casting off 4 sts at beg of next row, then dec at armhole edge in next & alt rows until 12 sts rem.
Work 1 row. 
SHAPE NECK:
NEXT ROW: Cast off 2 sts, patt, to last 2 sts, work 2 tog. 
Dec 1 st at neck edge in alt rows 3 times, at same time dec 1 st at armhole edge in alt rows until 2 sts rem. 
Work 1 row. K 2 tog. Fasten off. 
LEFT FRONT:
Work same as right front, but reverse shaping. 
SLEEVES:
Use #11 needles, cast on 31 sts & k 6 rows. 
NEXT ROW: K 2, (inc in next st, k 4) 5 times, inc in next st, k to end: 37 sts. 
Change to #9 needles & patt:
1ST ROW: K.
2ND ROW: P. 
3RD ROW: K 1,* y fwd, k 2 tog, rep from * to end. 
4TH ROW: P 2, * yrn, p 2 tog, rep from * to last st, p 1. 
5TH & 6TH ROWS: Rep 1st & 2nd rows. 
Rows 1st to 6th incl, form patt.
Cont in patt, inc at each end of 3rd & foll 5th rows until there are 49 sts. 
Cont until side edge meas 5½”, work last row on WS. 
SHAPE TOP:
1ST & 2ND ROWS: Cast off 4 sts, patt, to end.
Dec 1 st each end of next & alt rows until 5 sts rem.
Work 1 row. Cast off.

COLLAR:
Use #11 needles, cast on 72 sts & work 2½” in garter st. Cast off. 
RIGHT FRONT BAND:
Use #11 needles, cast on 13 sts & k 5 rows. 
** 6TH ROW: K 2, y fwd, k 2 tog, k to last 3 sts, y fwd, k 2 tog, k 1.
K 21 rows. ** 
Rep from ** to ** 4 times, then 6th row once: 12 buttonholes.
K 3 rows. Cast off. 
LEFT FRONT BAND:
Work as right front band, omit buttonholes. 
FINISHING:
Do not press Swifta'Knit.
With slightly damp cloth & warm iron, press Bluebell lightly.
Use back st, & join raglan seams.
Sew up side & sleeve seams.

Sew on front bands.
Use flat seam, & sew cast-off edge of collar from centre of left front band to centre of right front band.
Sew on buttons.

LEGGINGS:
RIGHT LEG:
Use #11 needles, cast on 67 sts. 
1ST ROW: K 2, * p 1, k 1, rep. from * to last st, k 1. 
2ND ROW: * K 1, p 1, rep. from * to last st, k 1. 
3RD ROW: Kl,* yrn, p 2 tog, k 1, p 1, rep from * to last 2 sts, yon, k 2 tog.
Work 5 rows in rib. **

Change to #9 needles. 
NEXT ROW: K.
NEXT ROW: P. 
SHAPE BACK:
1ST ROW: K 13, turn.

2ND & ALT ROWS: P to end.

3RD ROW: K 19, turn.

5TH ROW: K 25, turn. 
Cont in this manner, work 6 sts more in every alt row until the row "K 49, turn" has been worked. 
NEXT ROW: P to last 2 sts, inc in next st, p 1: 68 sts. 
*** Cont in st st, inc 1 st each end 9th & foll 10th rows until there are 78 sts.
Cont straight until 7½” from beg, work last row on WS. Mark this point. 
SHAPE LEG:
Dec 1 st each end next & alt rows until 50 sts rem, then foll 3rd rows until 36 sts rem. 
Cont, straight until from marked point, work last row on WS. *** 
DIVIDE FOR FOOT:
1ST ROW: K 29, turn.
2ND ROW: P 13, turn. 
Work 16 rows in st st on these 13 sts. Break yarn. 
With RS facing, rejoin yarn to inside edge of 16 sts left on needle, knit up 10 sts alongside of foot & work across 13 sts on needle thus:

K 6, k 2 tog, k 5, knit up 10 sts along other side of foot, then work across rem 7 sts: 55 sts.
K 11 rows. 
SHAPE FOOT:
1ST ROW: K 3, (k 2 tog) twice, k 23, (k 2 tog) twice, k 21. 
2ND & 4TH ROWS: K. 
3RD ROW: K 2, (k 2 tog) twice, k 21, (k 2 tog) twice, k 20. 
5TH ROW: K 1, (k 2 tog) twice, k 19, (k 2 tog) twice, k 19. 
6TH ROW: K. Cast off.

LEFT LEG:
Work as right leg to **.
Change to #9 needles & k 1 row. 
SHAPE BACK:
1ST ROW: P 13, turn. 
2ND & ALT ROWS: K to end.

3RD ROW: P 19, turn.

5TH ROW: P 25, turn. 
Cont in this manner, work 6 sts more in alt rows until row "P 49, turn" has been worked.

NEXT ROW: K to end. 
NEXT ROW: Inc in 1st st, p to end: 68 sts. 
Work as right leg from *** to ***.

DIVIDE FOR FOOT:
1ST ROW: K 20, turn.
2ND ROW: P 13, turn. 
Work 16 rows in st-st on these 13 sts. Break yarn. 
With RS facing, rejoin yarn to inside edge of 7 sts left on needle, knit
up 10 sts alongside of foot & work across 13 sts as follows:

K 6, k 2 tog, k 5, k up 10 sts along other side of foot, then work across rem 16 sts: 55 sts.
K 11 rows. 
SHAPE FOOT:
1ST ROW: K 21, (k 2 . tog) twice, k 23, (k 2 tog) twice, k 3. 
2ND & 4TH ROWS: K. 
3RD ROW: K 20, (k 2 tog) twice, k 21, (k 2 tog) twice, k 1. 
5TH ROW: K 19, (k 2 tog) twice, k 19, (k 2 tog) twice, k 1. 
6TH ROW: K. Cast off. 
FINISHING:
Do not press Swifta'Knit.
With slightly damp cloth & warm iron, press Bluebell lightly.
Use back st, & join seams. 
Thread elastic through holes at waist.
