Vintage 1939 Stylish Beret #412

Quick & easy to create, this becoming beret will become a seasonal favorite & you’ll be a well dressed lady in town or country!


MATERIALS: 
4 tubes Raphael Brand Gimp
Millinery Wire
Feather

TOP OF CROWN: 
Ch 4 & join with sl st to form ring.

1ST ROW:  Make 7 sc in ring.

2ND ROW:  Make 2 sc in each st of prev row.

3RD ROW:  Make 1 sc in 1st st, * 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st & rep from * to end of row.

4TH & FOLLOWING ROWS:  Make 1 sc in each st of prev row with 7 incs in each row evenly spaced until diameter of Crown meas 8 ¾”.  [Do not inc exactly over prev incs.]  End off.

SIDE OF CROWN: 
Make a ch for desired head size & join with sl st to form ring.

1ST ROW:  Make 1 sc in each st of foundation ch.

2ND & 3RD ROWS:  Make 1 sc in each st of prev row.  [Ch 1, turn at end of 3rd row.]

4TH ROW:  Make 1 sc in each st of prev row to within 4 ½” from end, turn.

5TH & FOLLOWING ROWS:  Make 1 sl st in 1st sc, 1 sc in each st around with 3 incs in each row evenly spaced, 1 sl st in last sc until side of Crown meas 2 ¼” in width, turn.  End off. 

ATTACH Gimp at end of 6th row on right side & make 1 sc in each st of prev row around entire top of side of Crown, then make 1 sc in each st of prev row for next 2 rows.  End off. 

JOIN side of Crown to top of Crown with  scs on right side, working over Milliner Wire.

BAND: 
ATTACH Gimp at bottom of hat on right side & make 1 sc in each st of foundation ch, picking up rem loop.

2ND & 3RD ROWS:  Make 1 sc in each st of prev row.  End off.

FINISHING: 
Tack down Crown & trim with feather as shown in photo.

NOTE: 
To make this beret extra special, add a veil of net, lace or dotted-swiss in a matching color. 

Experimenting with fabrics & color combinations will make this your own original creation!
