1954 Elegant Pillbox Hat & Purse #356
MATERIALS:
Red Heart Orlon “Fashion Glo” 3 Ply, 4
skeins [1 oz]
#2/0 [00] Steel Crochet Hook
Pillbox Hat Frame, 6 ½” x 7” diameter
Small Rhinestone Pin
Black Feather
½ yd Lining Material [Hat]
¼ yd Buckram & ¼ yd Lining Material
[Bag]
40 Rhinestones
Snap Fastener
GAUGE:
5 sc = 1”; 5 rows or rnds = 1”
HAT:
Starting at center of crown, ch 2.
1ST RND: 6 Sc in 2nd ch from hook.
2ND RND: 2 Sc in each sc around.
3RD RND: * 2 Sc in next sc [1 sc inc], sc in next
sc. Rep from * around.
4TH RND: Sc in each sc, inc 6 sc evenly around.
Rep 4th rnd until piece measures
same as top of frame [piece may be stretched to allow for slight oval of
frame].
SIDE PIECE:
1ST RND: Sc in back loop of each sc around.
2ND RND: Working thru both loops, sc in each sc
around. Rep 2nd rnd until
piece measure same depth as side of frame.
Join & break off.
Line frame with material.
Place crocheted piece over frame [it should fit
snug, but not tight enough to cause frame to fold or crease].
Sew neatly in place.
Sew on feather & place pin at base of
feather.
BAG:
Starting at bottom, ch 41 to measure 8 ¼”.
1ST ROW: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each
ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2ND ROW: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Rep 2nd row until piece measures 10”. ch 1, turn.
FLAP:
1ST ROW: Dec 1 sc [to dec 1 sc, work off 2 sc as 1
sc], sc in each sc across to within last 2 sc, dec 1 sc. Ch 1, turn.
2ND ROW: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Rep last 2 rows 6 more times. Ch
1, turn. Rep 1st row 6 more
times. Break off.
Fold straight edge up 5” to form
pocket.
Sew side seams.
Line back with buckram & lining
material.
Sew rhinestones around outer
edge of flap.
Sew snap fastener in
place.
