Thread Company “Dawn” Knitting Worsted Art. #W11, W41, or W42, 7 oz white
& 5 oz black,
Or “Star” Rug yarn Art. #44, 5 skeins white & 3 skeins black

Cardboard 3 ¾” x 8”
Cardboard 3 ¾” x 8”

yd black Felt for Lining
Bag: Starting at bottom with black ch 16, 3 sc in 2nd
ch from hook, 1 sc in each of next 13 sts of ch, 3 sc in end ch, working on
other side of ch, 1 sc in each st, do not join this or the following rnds. Place a marker at beg of each rnd.
2nd
rnd: 2 Sc in each of next 3 sc, 1 sc in each
sc on side, 2 sc in each of 3 sc at end, 1 sc in each remaining sc.
3rd
rnd: 1 Sc in each sc on sides & 2 sc in
each of 6 sc at each end.
4th
rnd: 1 Sc in each sc.
5th
rnd: * 2 Sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, rep
from * 5 times [6 incs], 1 sc in each sc on side, work opposite end same as
beg, 1 sc in each remaining sc.
6th
& 7TH rnds: 1 Sc in each sc.
8th
rnd: 1 Sc in each sc.
9th
rnd: 1 Sc in base of each sc working over
entire st [double rnd worked for a firm edge].
Repeat the 8th & 9th rnds twice, break
yarn. This finishes bottom of bag.
Upper
Section: With White ch 60
loosely, join to form a ring being careful not to twist ch, ch 1 & work 1
sc in each st of ch, do not join rnds.
Place marker at beg of each rnd.
2nd
to 11th rnds: 1 sc in each sc, drop
White.
When
changing Color always complete last half of st with next color.
12th
rnd: Attach Black, * 1 sc in each of next 3
sc, now work 1 sc in base of each of next 3 sc working over each entire st, rep
from * all around, drop Black.
13th
rnd: Pick up White & work 1 sc in each
sc, drop White.
14th
rnd: Pick up Black, * 1 sc in base of each of
next 3 sts working over each entire st, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, rep from *
all around, drop Black.
15th
rnd: Same as 13th rnd.
16th
rnd: With Black 1 sc in each sc, break black.
17th
to 29th rnds: With White work even in
sc.
30th
to 33rd rnds: Rep 12 to 15th
rnds, break White.
34th
rnd: With Black 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, ch
2, sk 1 sc, 1 sc in each of next 6 sc, ch 2, sk 1 sc, 1 sc in each of next 8
sc, * ch 2, sk 1 sc, 1 sc in each of next 6 sc, rep from * twice, ch 2, sk 1
sc, 1 sc in each of next 8 sc, ch 2, sk 1 sc, 1 sc in each of next 6 sc, end
row with ch 2, sk 1 sc, 1 sc in each of last 3 sc.
35th
rnd: 1 Sc in base of each sc all around &
2 sc in each ch 2 loop, break yarn.
Cut
oval shape cardboard 3 ¾” x 8”. Cut 2
pieces of felt same shape allowing ¼” all around for sewing allowance. Insert cardboard between 2 felt pieces &
sew ¼” from edge all around.
Cut
felt lining to fit upper section having it about 1” shorter at top & sew to
oval shape bottom. Sew an inside pocket
if desired. Place entire lining in upper
section & sew lower edge of upper section to oval shape bottom. Sew top of lining in position just under the
33rd rnd.
Place
completed bag in 1st black section made having last 2 double rows extend
up over bag to form a cuff. Sew in
position.
With
black crochet 2 chs each about 1 yd long.
Lace 1 ch through beading at top of bag.
Lace other ch through beading from opposite side. Sew free ends together.
Hat: With white ch 4, join to form ring, ch 1
& work 10 sc in ring, do not join rnds.
Place marker at beg of each rnd.
2nd
rnd: 2 Sc in each sc [20 sc].
3rd
rnd: * 2 Sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, rep
from * all around [30 sc].
4th
rnd: 1 Sc in each sc.
5th
rnd: * 1 Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in
next sc, rep from * all around [40 sc].
Work 1 rnd even in sc.
7th
rnd: * 1 Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep
from * all around [60 sc].
8th
to 14th rnds: Work even, drop White.
15th
to 19th rnds: Rep 12th to
16th rnds [pattern] of bag.
Brim: 1st row: With White, * 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc,
rep from * to within last 7 sc,
ch 1, turn.
ch 1, turn.
2nd
row: 1 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn.
3rd
to 5th rows: Same as 2nd
row, break White. Sew side end of brim
to 1st 4 free sts of last black rnd sewing on wrong side. Sew other side of brim to remainder of free
sts of last black rnd. This forms point
in back of hat.
6th
rnd: Attach black in point & work * 1 sc
in each of next 3 sc, 1 sc in base of next 3 sc working over entire sts, rep
from * all around.
7th
rnd: 1 Sc in each sc.
8th
rnd: 1 Sc in base of each sc of previous rnd
[double rnd made for firm edge], break yarn.
