Vintage 1952 Quick Knit Shrug #348


A clever woman quickly knits this charming shrug…then easily repeats the process again & again to match many other outfits in her wardrobe!  This season-spanning shrug will become a favorite to wear & gift!

SIZE: 
Medium, 14 - 16

MATERIALS: 
Red Heart Sock & Sweater Yarn, 3 Ply, 4 [1 oz] skeins
I Pair each #3 [3 mm] & #1 [2 ½ mm] Knitting Needles

GAUGE: 
7 sts = 1”;     
10 rows = 1”

ABBREVIATIONS:
CONT =          Continue                              
K         =          Knit
MEAS =          Measure                               
P         =          Purl
PSSO =          Pass Slip Stitch Over         
REP    =          Repeat
SL       =          Slip                                        
ST       =          Stitch
TOG    =          Together

SHRUG:
Start at inner edge with #3 needles, cast on 228 sts. 

Work in ribbing of k 3, p 3, until piece meas 6 ¼”. 

Change to #1 needles & cont working in ribbing until piece meas 10” in all.

NEXT ROW:  * Sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, sl 1, p 2 tog, psso.  Rep from * across. 

Now work in ribbing of k 1, p 1 for 2 ¾”.  Bind off loosely in ribbing.

Make second piece in same manner. 

Sew side seams. 

Start with 46th st  of cast-on sts on either piece, sew neatly to corresponding sts on second piece along next 63 sts.
