Vintage 1950s Diamond Lace Bolero #1328
SIZES:
Small, Medium & Large

Directions are given for size Small with changes for Medium & Large in brackets.

MATERIALS:
American Thread Company Dawn Wool & Nylon Fingering Yarn
OR
Dawn Nylon
OR
Nylon Pompadour
OR
Dawn Sweater & Sock Yarn
6 [8-9] oz Blue or color of your choice.
1 Pair Knitting Needles #2

GAUGE:
8 Sts = 1”; 11 Rows = 1”

BACK:
Cast on 120 [135-150] sts.

1ST ROW: K 5, * K2 tog, YO, K 1, YO, sl 1, K 1, psso K st, K 10, rep from * to within last 10 sts, K 2 tog, YO, K 1, YO, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 5.

2ND & ALL EVEN ROWS: P across row. 

3RD ROW: K 4, * K 2 tog, YO, K 3, YO, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 8, rep from * to within last 11 sts, K 2 tog, YO, K 3, YO, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 4.

5TH ROW: K 3, * K 2 tog, YO, K 5, YO, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 6, rep from * across row to within last 12 sts, K 2 tog, YO, K 5, YO, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 3.

7TH ROW: K 5, * YO, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 1, K 2 tog, YO, K 10, rep from * to within last 10 sts, YO, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 1, K 2 tog, YO, K 5.

9TH ROW: K 6, * YO, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, YO, K 12, rep from * to within last 9 sts, YO, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, YO, K 6.

10TH ROW: P across row.

3rd to 10th rows form patt.

Rep patt 0 [1-2] times.

Keep patt uni­form, work in patt & inc 1 st at each end of every other row until there are 144 [159-174] sts on needle, end with 10th row of patt, cast on 78 [78-78] sts.

START SLEEVES:
Work in patt across all sts.

With sep strand of yarn, cast on 78 [78-78] sts on free needle, then cont in patt across these sts, there will be 300 [315-330] sts on needle.

Work even in patt until 7½ [7½-8½] patts have been compl from cast on sts.

SHOULDERS:
Bind off 5 [5-5] sts at beg of next 32 [32-30] rows.

Bind off 10 [11-11] sts at beg of next 10 [10-12] rows.

Bind off rem 40 [45-48] sts.

LEFT FRONT:
Cast on 35 [42-50] sts & work in patt as follows: K 5 [5-5] sts, then K 2 tog, YO, K 1, YO, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 10, 2 [2-3] times.

This compl row FOR SMALL & LARGE SIZES.

FOR MEDIUM SIZE compl row as follows:
K 2 tog, YO, K 1, YO, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 2.

2ND ROW: Inc 1 st at beg of row [Front edge], P across row.

3RD ROW: K 4 sts, * K 2 tog, YO, K 3, YO, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 8, rep from * 2 [2-3] times, then K 2 FOR SMALL SIZE.

FOR MEDIUM SIZE compl row as follows:
K 2 tog, YO, K 3, YO, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 2.

FOR LARGE SIZE compl row as follows: K 2, then FOR ALL SIZES, work as follows:

4TH ROW: Inc 1 st at beg of row, P across row.

Keep patt uniform, work in same way & inc 1 st at beg of every P row 23 [22-22] more times, AT SAME TIME, when 1 [2-3] patts have been compl, inc 1 st at side edge EVERY OTHER row 12 times.

When there are 63 [75-86] sts on needles, end with 10th row of patt, cast on 78 [78-78] sts at end of this row.

Keep patt uniform & cont to inc at Front edge, if needed, in same way until there are 150 [156-164] sts on needles.

Work even for 5 patts & end on 9th row of last patt, then dec 1 st at Front edge every 3rd row 20 [21-23] times, AT SAME TIME when 7½ [7½- 8½] patts have been compl from cast on sts, bind off at sleeve edge 5 sts at beg of EVERY OTHER row 16 [16-15] times.

Bind off at sleeve edge 10 [11-11] sts at beg of EVERY OTHER row 5 [5-6] times.

RIGHT FRONT:
Work same as Left Front, but reverse shaping.

Block each section.
Sew top of Sleeve & Shoulder seam.

SLEEVE BAND:
With RS of work toward you, pick up 86 [86-94] sts across sleeve edge.

Work next 6 rows in stockinette st [P 1 row, K 1 row].

NEXT ROW: [WS] K across row for hemline.

NEXT 8 ROWS: Work in stockinette st. Bind off.

Sew Sleeve seams.

Turn back Band on hemline & sew to WS of Sleeve.

BAND:
Cast on 20 sts.

1ST ROW: K 2 tog, K 7, inc 1 st in each of next 2 sts, K 7, K 2 tog.

2ND ROW: P across row.

Rep these 2 rows until Band is long enough to reach around Bolero. Bind off.

Sew short ends to­g on WS.

FINISHING:
Start at right side seam & seam of Band, with RS facing, sew 1 edge of Band to edge of Bolero.

Fold Band at center & sew other edge to Bolero on WS.
