1946 Toddler’s Long Sleeve Cardigan Sweater #B-132
 SIZE:
2 Years

MATERIALS:
American Thread Co Dawn Infant’s Wool, Art #W5, 1 oz – 5 balls Pink or any Color desired
6 Buttons
Bone Crochet Hook #2 or #3

WAISTBAND:
Ch 13, work 12 sc on ch, [ch 1 to turn each row throughout sweater].

2ND ROW: Work in back lp of st only, 1 sc in each sc.

Rep 2nd row 116 times, [about 18”] do not break yarn, turn.

Work row of sc over long side of band, working 1 sc in each row, inc  6 times, spacing incs evenly.  [124 sc]

2ND ROW:  1 Sc in first sc, 1 dc in next sc, * 1 sc in next sc, 1 dc in next sc, rep from * to end of row.

3RD ROW:  Start patt, 1 sc in 1st dc, 1 dc in next sc, * 1 sc in next dc, 1 dc in next sc, rep from * to end of row.  [62 patts:  1 sc & 1 dc form patt].

Start each row with sc & end each row with dc.

Cont working same as 3rd row until work meas 7 ½” from lower edge of band.

RIGHT FRONT:
Work over first 15 patts, ch 1, turn & work 9 more rows over 15 patts.

NEXT ROW:  Start dec for neck.  Sk 1st patt at neck edge & work over next 14 patts.

NEXT ROW:  Work over 13 patts omitting last patt at neck edge.

Rep last 2 rows twice.

NEXT ROW:  Work back over next 5 patts, then 2 sc over each of last 4 patts, break yarn.

LEFT FRONT:
Join in 15th patt from opposite side & work over 15 patts.

Work 9 more rows over 15 patts.

NEXT 6 ROWS:  Dec 1 patt at neck edge each row.

NEXT ROW:  Work 2 sc over each of next 4 patts, then work in patt over last 5 patts, break yarn.

BACK:
Join yarn in 3rd patt from right front & work in patt, leaving 2 patts free bet right & left front for underarm.  [28 patts]

Work 14 more rows over 28 patts.

NEXT ROW:  Work over 9 patts for shoulder, ch 1, turn.

NEXT ROW:  Work over first 5 patts, then 2 sc in each of last 4 patts, break yarn.

Attach yarn in 9th patt from armhole at opposite side.

Work 1 patt in each of 9 patts, ch 1, turn.

Work 2 sc in each of first 4 patts, 1 patt in each of last 5 patts, break yarn.

SLEEVE:
Ch 9 & work 8 sc on ch.

Work same as sweater band for 32 rows.

Over long side of band, work row of sc, inc 6 times [38 sc], ch 1, turn.

Work in patt until sleeve meas 8” from lower edge of band.

NEXT ROW:  Start decs, dec 1 patt at beg & end of row, then dec 1 patt at beg of each row until 4 patts rem, break yarn.

Work other sleeve in same manner.

Sew shoulder seams of sweater.

Sew sleeve seam & sew sleeves in position.

Attach yarn at right side at lower edge of waistband & work 1 sc in each of 12 sts of waistband, then cont up front to neck working 1 sc in each row of patt.  [48 sc] ch 1, turn.

2ND ROW:  Work 1 sc in each of 48 sc.

3RD ROW:  1 Sc in each of first 4 sc, * ch 3, sk 3 sc, [buttonhole] 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, rep from * 4 times, then ch 3, sk 3 sc, 1 sc in rem sc, ch 1, turn.

NEXT ROW:  Work 1 sc in each sc & 3 sc over each ch 3 of buttonhole, ch 1, turn.

Work 1 more row of sc even, break yarn.

Attach yarn at opposite side & work 5 rows of sc in same manner, omitting buttonholes, break yarn.

COLLAR:
Start at right front, work 1 sc in each of 5 rows of sc band, then work 13 sc to shoulder, work 2 sc over each patt at back of neck, work 13 sc across left side & 5 sc over band, break yarn.

Attach yarn in 3rd sc of right side over buttonhole, work around neck, working 1 sc in each sc, omitting last 2 sc, turn.

Work 1 more row of sc even.

NEXT ROW:  Work 1 sc in each of first 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, * 1 sc in each of next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep from * 5 times, 1 sc in each rem sc having even number of sc.

Work 1 more row of sc even.

Finish collar with 5 rows of patt, break yarn.

Sew buttons in position.
