1945 Woman’s Lace Picture Hat  #208

MATERIALS: 
Dritz Chenille 6 - 36 yd skeins

Plastic Crochet Hook #E or Steel #2

59 ½” Millinery Wire

GAUGE: 
5 ch = 1”

CROWN: 
1^st row:  ch 4, join, 8 sc in ring.

2^nd row:  2 Sc in each st. 

Cont to inc as necessary to keep work flat to 4 ½” in diameter [approx 70 sts].

Next row:  Clamp 16 ½” piece of wire to form ring. 

Work over wire as follows:  Insert hook in next st, over thru 1 loop, insert hook in same st, over thru all 3 loops.  Rep around. 

Next row:  Work very tightly 4 rnds of hdc.

BRIM: 
1^st row:  * Ch 3, sc *.  Rep bet * in each st around. [70 loops]

2^nd row:  [Ch 3, sc] in each loop.

3^rd row:  Rep row 2.

4^th row:  * Ch 3, sc in next loop, ch 4, sc in next loop.  Rep from * around.

5^th row:  Rep row 4.

6^th row:  * Ch 4, sc in next loop.  Rep from * 4 times, 3 dc in next sc, sc in next loop.  Rep from beg of row.

7^th row:  * Ch 4, sc in each loop, ch 4, sc in center of patt.  Rep from * around.

8^th, 9^th, 10^th & 11^th rows:  Rep rows 6 & 7, alternating spacing of patt & end with a plain row & ch 3 instead of ch 4. 

Cut a 43” piece of wire & clamp to form ring. 

Sc over wire, using 3 sc in each loop.

FRILL: 
1^st row:  * Sc in next st,, sk 2, 5 dc in next st, sk 2.  Rep from * around.

2^nd row:  5 Dc in sc of prev row, sc in top of shell of row below.  Rep around.

TAB: 
Sc in 25 sts across back of crown inside hat.  * Ch 3, turn, dc in each st, ch 1, turn, sc in each st.  Rep from * twice, dec 1 st each side on the sc row. 

Sc around entire piece. 

Trim with ornamental pins, if desired.
