& easy to crochet this charming open-work Breton hat with the stylish ines
of its design…a sophisticated, season-spanning wardrobe favorite…perfect for
many occasions!

Super Wired Chenille, 3 skeins

Steel Crochet Hook or #3 Bone Crochet Hook

CROWN:
1ST
RND: Ch 2 loosely, work 9 sc in 2nd
ch from hook. Join with sl st in 1st
sc.
2ND
RND: Ch 2, work hdc at base of ch-2, 2
hdc in next 8 sts around [18 sts]. Join.
3RD
RND: Ch 2, hdc at base of ch-2, * hdc in
next st, 2 hdc in next st. Rep from *
around [27 sts]. Join.
4TH
RND: Ch 2, * 2 hdc in next st, hdc in
next 2 sts. Rep from * around [36
sts]. Join.
Cont
inc 9 sts on each rnd, careful not to make incs directly over prev incs, until
there are 54 sts in rnd.
Work
1 rnd even [no incs].
NEXT
RND: Inc 9 sts as before [63 sts].
Work
even until crown, when stretched to proper head size, meas 5 ¼” from
center. Join.
BRIM:
1ST
RND: Ch 1, work sc around, inc in every
3rd st [84 sts]. Join.
2ND
RND: Work sc in each st around.
Work
sc around until brim meas 1 ½”, end at center back.
NEXT
RND: Sc in next 6 sts, ch 7, turn, sl st
in 1st sc made, turn, work 12 sc over ch, sc in next 4 sts, * ch 7,
turn, sk 2 sc inside of prev loop, sl st in next st, turn, work 12 sc over ch,
sc in next 4 sts. Rep from * until there
are 4 loops, then work four ch-9 loops with 15 sc over each loop, work seven
ch-11 loops with 18 sc over each loop, work four ch-9 loops with 15 sc over
each loop, then finish rnd with ch-7 loops with 12 sc as at beg. Last loop is made by working sl st in first 3
sc of rnd, then ch 7 & complete loop as before. Fasten off.
FINISHING:
Place
hat on head & adjust to proper head size.
With
fingers manipulate brim to most becoming angle.
Remove
hat from head, stretch all loops into shape.
Brush
inside of hat & brim with millinery sizing & allow to dry.
Sew
on velvet band & flower.
